Hi Bluematter:
Here are my answers to your questions –
1) How long can I take to write the GMAT again??
My answer – I am not sure if I understand this question correctly. Because they were pretty straightforward about stating the last date that you could submit information. They told you March 1st, correct? An updated GMAT score would qualify as updated information that needs to be sent to them by March 1st.
So your answer is March 1st. Please let me know if I do not understand what you are asking, because this seems readily apparent based on what the admissions committee told you.
2) Will they wait for my score or update on my profile for 6 weeks if I send them an update after 3 weeks saying I have progressed in my job and ask them to hold on??
My answer –I think I understand what you are asking here. whatever you send them before the March 1st date they will most likely queue. That is, they are going to look at things piecemeal. They will look at them all in one lump sum. I think it is perfectly acceptable to update them though several times along the way. You want to have an initial update for the waitlist - this is the one to tell them what you been up to since applying. Then you want to follow that up with a second written update which would include your GMAT score as well as what you have been up to at work, and anything relevant outside of work.
I am not sure what you mean by "and ask them to hold on?" So I cannot provide any insight into this.
3) Would a new job offer strengthen my profile now ??[/quote]
My answer – probably not. Is this a new position within your work? I do not think that is what you referring to. Most likely it is a new job opportunity outside of work. Is the job related to your goals? Is it consistent with your current professional path? And are you going to take the job?
Regardless, offers of new jobs do not enhance your candidacy. I guess I am curious as to why you think it would. Perhaps new work experience would enhance your candidacy, but it also introduces new complicating factors as well. even if you took the job he would not be there long enough to offer up compelling evidence to the admissions committee that you have improved as a professional. But if you took a job and quit after eight or nine months because you are going back to business school, he would really burn a lot of bridges. Admissions committees would probably realize that is what you are doing, actually think it would look detrimental to your cause.
Again, the offer itself is not sufficient or compelling evidence that will sway the admissions committee in one way or another.
Basically what you need to do in this situation is to rock the GMAT. That is really what they want to see at the end of the day to make the decision easier. It is a hard score, and easily discernible quantitative measure that can distinguish you from the rest of the crowd. Nail the GMAT and you are in.
Respectfully,

Hi Admission Team
I was waitlisted in an university without interview !!
At this point, it is difficult to forecast the timing of a final decision or the likelihood of a favorable outcome. We will continue to review applications and will provide you with updated information as soon as possible.
In the meantime, please only contact us with any, significant changes to your application, including updated test scores, enhanced job responsibilities and/or professional recognitions or certifications.
The median GMAT is 635 and I have a 600.
I sent them a reply saying that their university is my top priority and that I have decided to take GMAT again in 6 weeks. And asked for the time frame within which the score is expected. And that I am excited about the new opportunity at work, my start up and personal blog.
They replied saying
Thank you for your email. The final international deadline is March 1; therefore, you would have until that time to provide updated scores and additional information in support of your application.
We thank you for your interest in the XXX MBA program, and will be sure to contact you by email with any change in the status of your application.
I have few clarifications !!
1) How long can I take to write the GMAT again??
2) Will they wait for my score or update on my profile for 6 weeks if I send them an update after 3 weeks saying I have progressed in my job and ask them to hold on??
3) Would a new job offer strengthen my profile now ??
