Profile Evaluation : Civil Engineer : GMAT 690

Question

Hi,

Please evaluate my profile

Citizenship : Indian
GMAT : 690 (Q49 V35 AWA 6 IR 3).
Under-graduation : Civil Engineering CGPA 3.6/4 
IELTS: Yet to take
Work experience : 3.5 years of Work experience in Supply Chain Management in the largest construction firm of India. A consistent performer in my department. Have participated in many national/local level industry related competition while representing my firm and won a few.

Currently part of the corporate social responsibility team educating children in a near by village.

Decent extra curriculars in school/under-graduation.

I want to get into decent MBA colleges like Schulich (Canada), Krannert (Purdue), Mays (Texas A&M College Station), Katz (University of Pittsburg), Scheller (Geogia Tech).

Please can you suggest if my profile is good enough to get accepted in to these colleges and also suggest some colleges where i can apply with my profile.

Further, Please let me know if IR will hamper my chances of getting into the above mentioned schools.

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing your information. I like the schools that you are targeting for the most part. Your GMAT is in the right range and you have a solid GPA in a rigorous undergraduate major. Your work experience is nice too, but don't forget about all of your leadership experiences - examples of resolving major conflicts, leading a group to achieve a certain milestone, and others. Your involvement is great, too - sounds like you have a lot of examples to share where you and your team made a significant impact in the community.

The programs you mentioned are all good targets for you with Georgia Tech being the toughest given your profile (you should still apply). If you've only taken the GMAT once, and you have until R1 later this year to apply, why not give the GMAT another shot? Crossing over to the land of 700+ plus a higher IR will only boost your chances. Also, to get a better sense of fit, what do you want to do after your MBA?

Thank You for your response. However, giving the GMAT again is not an option due to my work commitments. I have also started taking a course in supply chain management from Edx. I would like to know if i have chances of getting an admit from the schools i mentioned above. Also, it would be of great help if you can suggest some good ranked colleges where i can apply with high probability of an admit. I need to apply this year and cannot wait for the next R1 round. Thank you

Hi there, so just to clarify, you're planning to apply R1 later this year, correct? Fall of 2016? Applying in R3 now leaves you with very limited options based on the seats available at any MBA program.

I am planning to apply in R3 this year, it would be great if you can suggest some good B-Schools where I can get an admit. My first preference would be the colleges I mentioned earlier. Please suggest some colleges where I can apply in R3 with a possibility of an admit. Please help

The schools you listed are a good set to apply to given your credentials and academic scores. To narrow them further and assess fit, I'd go back to my original question of what you hope to do after your MBA? This sets the narrative for your story on why you fit in with a particular school - e.g. student leadership organizations, recruiting opportunities, etc.
