Hi guys. I would like your opinion on my profile and whether I would be a good fit for the schools that I would like to apply to (and also if I'm too old). I managed to score 750 in the GMAT some 3.5 years ago, with 90%ile in quant and 93%ile in the verbal section. My IELTS score was 115/120. I have a work experience of close to 5.5 years.
My undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering was not from a premier institute in India, but I did receive a distinction in the first degree for my CGPA (8.95/10.00)
I completed my Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Singapore (NTU) and came in the top 5 students of my cohort with a CGPA of 4.25/5.00
I'll also preface that I'm not sure how this works out in the 4.0 scale that many universities require.
I began my working career with Bloomberg L.P in Singapore as a Professional Analytics Representative for 23 months. I moved from the general stream to the Fixed Income stream before leaving the company. Responsibilities here included :
1) Assisting clients of the terminal with any queries that they might have about the functionalities in the terminal
2) Helping clients understand the calculations and valuations for Fixed Income calculators provided in the terminal
3) Occasional client visits for functional expertise
I came back to India and after leaving Bloomberg and joined a startup (in the leasing space) as an analyst. I stayed here for three years. Major responsibilities included:
1) Ascertaining possible industries that are ripe for the company to move into
2) Ascertaining value from vendors on hard to value products (think customized cargo barges and the like)
3) Assisting top management put in reporting structures for employees in the company- company reported a record profit the year these measures were implemented
4) Modelling complex financial instruments to suit customer requirements
Later, I received an offer from MasterCard to become an Account Manager. I've been in the job for 10 months and if I do receive an MBA offer, my tenure here will be around 26 months (putting my overall work ex a shade above 7 years by that time). I currently have accounts in the East Africa Region, the subcontinent and in the South East Asian region. Major responsibilities include:
1) Manage P&L from the customers- negotiating support rates with the customers and following up on these commitments
2) Become face of the company for the customers- engage in up-selling, cross-selling various products if need be
3) Manage disputes that may have arisen earlier and settle them amicably
4) Align with outsourced support staff and in-house development teams on effective delivery to the customers
Apart from work, I've been working with a group that distributes excess hotel food among the poor in my city. I also frequently go on high altitude treks in the Himalayas.
I want to move into general management (in the exciting FinTech space, which is where I'm working) and to do well higher up the management chain, I will need to create proper decision frameworks that should take into account the workers, the products, the sales channels and how these factors can correctly drive and deliver on company strategy. This is where an MBA should help me.
I'm currently looking at Insead, LBS, NUS and NBS (international in focus), Wharton and ISB.
Thank you and I would love to hear any opinions you may have.
EDIT: Forgot to add that I'm male as well
