Hi
squirrelsome,
I just took over engaging on this page and I am looking to be a helpful resource- I'm curious what you decided since I see this post is from May but let me give you my thoughts from an admissions perspective:
My comments below in blue
Your GPA is good- right at sweet spot, GMAT excellent, work experience also strongThis application cycle has certainly been interesting for me, I was rejected by every school I applied to (couple top 15 and some top 10) but I was accepted to a top 20 program with a full scholarship. I am interested in banking and would like your opinion as to whether or not I should reapply for the next year to a couple more top programs (would there be significant value in attending a higher ranked program for banking?).
The reason that I am even considering this is because I feel I did quite poorly with my interviews and overall packaging of my application (I would get an admissions consultant to help with that this time but the experience from this year would prove invaluable as well. Additionally, I will be getting promoted to manager very soon and feel like the experience as a manager would really help me career-wise.
My background is that I have a 3.6 GPA from a top-30 US university, 3.45 GPA grad school GPA (accounting), white American male, 750 GMAT, 5 years experience (2 at big four accounting, 3 at fortunee 500), and I would be considering the following schools (plus maybe a couple more to diversify, but these are the definite choices):
-Booth (rejected last cycle)
Did you apply last round or stay on WL? If on WL means you are in striking zone. Same for Darden. Quite honestly with your stats and work experience you should be in strong consideration. Did you apply early enough? I think there is some other piece of the puzzle I'm not seeing because the data you present support admission or at least strong consideration. A firm like ours understands admissions from the inside and could help you present yourself in the best possible light. You can get a free consult to work with us and see what we do. -Darden (rejected last cycle)
-Sloan
-Kellogg
-Tuck
-Ross
One additional bit of information: I'm 30 already and I'm not sure if it's even worth delaying this process for a year if my age will be viewed as a negative.
I wouldn't worry about your age- you are close enough to sweet spot that it won't be an issue. I would suggest doing more school specific research and also working with someone because your stats support a better outcome than you present and I think there may be something else going on that needs to be addressed. Best of luck to you and congratulations on such strong academic and professional accomplishments! You have a lot to offer- always remember that!Your advice would be greatly appreciated
