I'm applying in round 1 this year for full-time MBA programs enrolling fall 2017 and would love to get a profile evaluation and suggestion about MBA programs. Any evaluation or advice you could give me would be great!

Education:
graduating from Foreign Trade University (the most prestigious economics university in Vietnam) in two majors: Business Economics and International Finance
I graduated with Honors in two majors/. GPA for 1st major is 3.62/4 and GPA for the 2nd major is 3.62/4
GMAT:
670 (47Q/35V/4IR/5.5AWA)
Work:
- approximately 2 years of working as audit assistant at Ernst & Young Vietnam (EY), always get excellent feedback from managers, directors and partners, get promoted each year. then i left EY for 1 year of working as a General Accountant at a local bank. in December 2015, I got an offer from EY director to come back and become an audit senior. I have played this role sine January 2016.
Details:
- I was the main general accountant at the Head Office of Tien Phong commercial joint stock bank (TPBank) for more than 1 year. My main duty was to prepare and present periodical financial statements which are used for the Government, the State Bank of Vietnam's governance and monitoring purposes and serve the economic decision by external investors. This task always required high accuracy, diligence, patience and great caution because of its importance to every stakeholder. Equally important, I prepared all kinds of reports to the SBV and managerial reports to the Board of Management; based on those reports, the Bank's managers could acquire a comprehensive overview of the Bank's financial position. I participated in several core-banking projects, in which my role was not only translator - the communication channel between TPBank and partners thanks to my good English and knowledge of special language but also a key person to contribute to constructing and testing data, qualifying the system's operational accuracy. Last but not least, finishing all other duties assigned by the CFO and Chief Accountant by strict deadline was one of my tasks at TPBank.
- As an Assurance senior at FSO of EY Vietnam, I am directly responsible toward my directors for every assigned audit engagement of which the final purpose is to provide audit opinion on my clients’ financial statements, internal control system and other accompanying services. Before engagements, I must identify issues raised, then develop audit program and testing procedures relevant to risk and test objectives.
During jobs, I monitor and ensure the engagement follow strictly fixed timeline with all procedures performed adequately and completely; communicate frequently with clients and managers about issues arising. Coaching my juniors, internees about auditing and accounting section, guiding, supervising, reviewing and continuously giving them feedback for deliverables improvement is also my responsibility. I provide feedback on juniors’ performance in roundtable in May for their further promotion. Normally, during a busy season, I am in charge of 4 to 5 jobs simultaneously, which is a huge workload when all those engagements commit to similar deadlines. That requires me to build a really good time and project management skill to survive each busy season but still deliver high-quality products to my clients and managers.
Beside work, I am a key team member in preparing, editing and publishing the periodic EY FSO magazine which serves as a channel sharing, updating on jobs, human resources and about EY-ers’ work and private lives and introducing EY Vietnam to other EY offices in the world. I am in charge of Our knowledge section mainly comprised of legal updates and technical issues, challenges.
Extracurriculars:
- Help one of my friends with his startup business (including budgeting, stock control, cashflow control, sales promotion).
- Participate and sometimes lead Charity activities at mountainous areas by my organization
Post-MBA Goals:
I wish to enter Consulting area. in details, I want to come back to EY and switch to Corporate consulting area. My long term goal is to set up my own consulting firm in 10 years.
Could you please suggest me the most suitable programs that I will have the biggest chance of admission? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out and for providing the detail behind your work experience! The way we approach school selection with our clients is quite comprehensive, taking their goals, objectives, and priorities as well as their background into consideration to help them target the right schools and maximize their chances of admission. As such, likelihood of admission is really a deeper conversation. With that said, given the information you provided, I think you could aim for a range of top 10 and top 15 programs. A few things stand out to me that could help improve your chances:
- Your GMAT is a bit on the low side for top 15 programs. If you could bring it up to 700+, that would certainly help.
- It sounds like you have interesting leadership experience in your current role but in your applications, you'll want to elaborate on your key achievements and contributions instead of only focusing on your general responsibilities.
- It's not clear how strong your extra-curriculars are...if you led a specific volunteer project or initiative, definitely expand on that in your applications.
- Further develop your "why an MBA" story and career goals. Why are you interested in management consulting? What do you hope to achieve?
