Gmatclub,
Out of college, I was hired by a commercial bank as a sales assistant. After a few months I received a more client facing service role and well known PWM office.
I learned a tremendous amount about business, and I gained useful exposure to the world of finance. After a year there I moved to a work for a 'relatively' well know value manager as a sales person (RIA/Wirehouse sales). I enjoy my work here as I get to work for a true stock picking organization and get to learn in great detail why we own the businesses' in the strategy. I recently was promoted to an institutional sales role at the same firm selling to pensions, endowments, etc. I am 3 years out of college and would have 4 years upon matriculating to B School.
My goal is i banking. After working at a stock picking organization (albeit a sales role) I realized I ultimately want to work for companies in a capacity to help them raise capital and advise of acquisitions to help them grow. 3.2 GPA from a good school (not ivy but strong Liberal arts college), 710 GMAT.
Some advice on which schools would I be competitive at and do I have a chance at i banking post MBA? I would appreciate any other comments as well. For example, how specific do I need to be on my essays. For example - I studied chemistry (which i enjoyed) and would enjoy having the opportunity to combine my two interests via healthcare/pharma/biotech banking. Is this detail needed/ does it jive?
