This is my first time posting here so I apologize if this is in the wrong spot. I've been a lurker on this website for about four months and have been studying for the GMAT for the entirety of that time. It's been an amazing resource, particularly since my father had a number of emergency surgeries and I was studying from hospital waiting rooms and care facilities for all of May so having access from my phone to other people's similar issues was really meaningful. The GMAT became this totem for control in my life, because if I could study and score high, I could at least make sure that I open up doors to increase my income and make sure my parents are taken care of and GMAT club was a big part of that. Just paying for the test was a big hit so I studied through forums and making multiple email accounts to get access to sample questions multiple times.
Anyway, I am happy I scored a 740 on my first run at the GMAT yesterday, but am concerned my Quant (44 - 56th percentile) is a bigger problem than the 740 is an asset with my verbal (49 - 99th percentile). My understanding is that the reverse is more common (strong quant but weak verbal) so my score was a bit rarer. I am wondering if I should retake for an M7 acceptance, since I understand that quant matters more to many schools. I have a graduate degree in economics from an elite institution (mostly B+/A- in those courses), but I'm really not sure where to put myself in the running. I am an Arabic translator/adjunct professor of political science at a major university looking to transition into private equity or management consulting, but the upshot is that I have a weird resume for an MBA from my public sector work and overseas research/language experience.
Any advice would be highly welcome and, again, I thank the community at large for helping me (even if they didn't know it at the time).

First off, a 740 is an outstanding score (it's well above the 90th percentile overall), so you should apply to any Business Schools that interest you. While a Q44 won't impress anyone, it likely wouldn't keep you out of contention at those Schools either. You're ultimately asking Admissions questions though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:
