Dear Gmatclub members,
Firstly I would like to thank all of you as my GMAT prep would have been incomplete without your help
Secondly, sincere apologies for the long post, but i want a very in-depth analysis for my profile.
The following is my profile:
Nationality: Indian
Male
Undergrad- Mechanical Engineering
University: VIT, Vellore
CGPA- 8.3/10
GMAT 710 (q50, v36, awa5, ir5)
Professional Experience:
1. Since i passed out of college in 2015, I have been working with EY (Ernst and Young) as a management consultant.
2. Have been on a fast-track career growth (became a consultant from an analyst in less than 2 years, a career progression that generally takes 4 years)
3. Have worked with various industries: Industrial Paint, Automotive, Tyre, Real Estate
4. Have worked in different competencies: Impact of GST tax on supply chain (GST is the hot topic in India these days), New market entry/market expansion strategy
5. Have led certain work streams in some projects and in the process guided and managed small project teams, which are part of a larger project.
6. Received a Kudos award from my director because i was able to handle one of the clients almost independently,very early in my career, leading to successful completion of the project.
7. Went above and beyond my responsibilities to get business for the firm with minimal help from my seniors.
Social Involvement:
1. Founder/President of a NGO in Delhi, India, with focus on education for the underprivileged.Have almost 300 volunteers working with us towards achieving our goal. Have been active since almost 18 months.
2.Have been actively teaching the underprivileged since i was in school.
College Activities:
1. Represented my college in United States for a SAE competition. our team had manufactured an All-Terrain Vehicle from scratch and invited by Shell to compete with almost 130 teams from around the globe(majorly from U.S. only). Was responsible for the marketing,sponsorships and team logistics and arrangements.
2. Represented my college in Silverstone, U.K. for a SAE competition. our team had manufactured an electric run Formula1 car nd invited by Shell to compete with almost 110 teams from around the globe(majorly from Europe). Was responsible for the marketing,sponsorships and team logistics and arrangements. On the technical side was part of the mechanical transmissions team for designing and manufacturing our car's transmission system.
3. Co-authored a research paper to analyse if a MBA in finance helps people make better personal finance decisions.
4. Participated in organising all major tests in our college.
Internships:
1. Maruti Suzuki: Did a 1 month summer internship in their R&D mechanical transmission. Hot the highest grading by my mentors in Maruti.
2. SKODA: Did a 1-month summer internship in their authorised workshop to gain knowledge about the on-ground work (Repairing and maintenance).
3. Chalkstudio: Did a 3-month internship with this startup while in the final year of college (the 8th semester is relatively less time consuming). Got to manage a team for 5 people.
Letter of Recommendation:
1. Should be able to get recommendations from my senior partner in EY and one of the clients whom i worked with(he is at vice-president level and was our SPOC for the project; the organisation is one of a very well know American tyre company and did a project with their India office).
2. Should also be able to get decent recommendations for my NGO,about which i have mentioned above.
I am interested in applying to all top b-schools (rank1-15) in US, Judge-Cambridge, LBS, INSEAD, NUS, ISB, or any other top schools you guys may suggest.
Also open to applying to masters in management, masters in supply chain or masters in strategy, but ONLY in IVY Leagues.
I request all experts/alumni/current students to analyse my profile and guide me further. I am aware that the number of years of experience i have is only 2, but i was wondering if this low number can be set-off by the extremely fast career progression in the BIG4.
Please let me know if any other information would be required.

Vinayak,
Thanks for your detailed profile post. Consulting is a great pre-MBA path and your extra-curriculars are strong. Would you consider retaking the GMAT? A 710 is a good score, though it would put you in the bottom range of the top 15 for the US given your demographic and work experience. Consultants do well on the GMAT and Indian males do even better. You will want to add 15-20 points to the median scores you see for the schools to get a sense of where you should be scoring to be competitive. NUS and ISB are more realistic with your profile as well as schools like Cornell Johnson, Texas McCombs, Duke Fuqua. I also like Cambridge for you with your current profile (for MBA). In terms of MiM, this would be a bit easier to get into from an experience standpoint, though the GMAT would be more important.

However, I can not really retake the exam due to some time constraints. I am sorry, but I was really not able to infer clear meaning from your advice. Did you suggest that,given my current profile, I have a more realistic chance at ISB,Cambridge and NUS and also at US b-schools such as Johnson, McCombs, Duke for my MBA? On the contrary you also mentioned that given my WE and demographics, I would be put in the bottom range of top 15 US B-schools. Maybe i inferred something wrong. Kindly help me reconcile the two points. Would you also like to suggest me top b-schools other than these?
Also, one more doubt has come to my mind: is the average number of years of WE mentioned on the website of any school mean the average WE of the class when the batch commences? or does it mean the average WE of the people in the class when they had applied for the program?
