Well exec MBAs DO NOT always require a sponsoring company. I know for a fact Wharton does not require a company to sponsor you. I attended their talk here in Portland a few months back and it sounds quite good for an older candidate.

Also, what is your reason for MBA? At 35+ years, your work experience might be more valuable than a MBA. Especially if you are planning to switch to IB or Mgt Consulting.

I would assume the opportunity cost (for a full time MBA) would be quite high! As the other thruthringer suggested a part time exec MBA might have a better ROI.

Finally, you might be able to achieve your objectives by taking a specialzed masters like - Financial Engineering, Economics or IT Management. Again it boils down to what you want.
