(Achievements - Dept Topper, President of Automotive Club, National Level AutoQuiz Host, Presented a Research Paper in final semester, Class Representative 3 yrs, Mess Representative 3 yrs)
Work Experience: At a top glass manufacturing organization in the world, Indian division (2 yrs, 11 months)
Graduate Engineer Trainee (6 mos)
Marketing Executive - Interiors Division (1 yr)
(Organized 30+ Product Launches, Photoshoots across the country among top interior designers, contractors and architects, managed collaterals, printables and merchandize for the Sales team, handled social media campaigns)
Key Account Manager - Bangalore Region (1.5 yrs)

Post MBA Goals: On one hand, I would like to start my own educational consulting firm in India aimed at bridging between India and other global schools. I'd like to have prior experience at MBB and build up my skills and network in the consulting industry for the same post my MBA. But tbh, Im also inclined at working at the World Bank and contributing towards specific causes related to other developing countries, with a focus on Public Policy in the real long term!

Thank you very much for your post. Here are a few observations:
- First and foremost, I am going to encourage you (as I do many others) to read this GMAT Club analysis of the MBA admissions chances for Indian applicants to the top 50 U.S. MBA programs. It breaks data out according to GMAT scores, industry, and years of work experience. Profile reviews aside, those numbers are going to give you context for how challenging the landscape is: https://gmatclub.com/forum/mba-admissio ... 39142.html
- It's a difficult to provide a solid assessment when we're working with wide potential GMAT score ranges and hypotheticals. But if you looked at the stats via the link above, you may have noticed that Indian applicants with a 700/710 GMAT score have a 2% acceptance rate to the top 20 U.S. programs, which is very low. Matters are made even more difficult when you're coming from an engineering background and are on the slightly younger side of the applicant pool.
- A lot of commentary suggests that when you're applying from such a crowded and competitive demographic, you want to target ~30 points above the average for the schools you're interested in. That would suggest a 750/760 type score for Wharton and Yale, a 740 for Stern, and a 720 for Tepper. You don't need these scores to get in -- there's way more to applicants than GMAT scores -- and, conversely, getting these scores doesn't get you in. But they help you set targets. If you end up scoring on the real test around where you've scored on the most recent practice exams, Wharton and Yale are going to be out of the picture.
- Your work experience poses potential benefits in that it's "different" than simply going into mechanical engineering, which you studied. Make sure you really unpack the value of that mix of experience, and all of the different skills, cross-functional teamwork, and impact you've had. Your goals will need to continue to evolve. The two possibilities you presented are quite different and each poses its own risks. The consulting path sounds quite cliche, the international development path can risk "why MBA and not MPP" (or similar), and education consulting seems disconnected from your prior experience (e.g., what is the evolution of that interest? What is the passion and purpose behind it?) Career goal development is a process. I encourage you to continue to refine your goals.
