Hi cr1010,

You seem to have a strong explanation for your low GPA and a trend to support that. However, if the GPA didn’t work out for some reasons, you should ideally give some other evidence of your proficiency in academic stuff, and GMAT is that opportunity. When you’re explaining your low GPA in the optional essay, you can always say: Look at my GMAT (if it’s good). It’s a better reflection of my academic abilities.

However, without a good score, there is little to hide behind.

Your profile seems differentiated and interesting, but a GMAT score close to the median would do a world of good for your candidacy.
