Hi guys,
First post here, been a long time lurker.
Here's my situation :
I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to figure out how to spin Insead's job essays (the first two), asking to describe current position and next steps.
I know similar flags have been raised for people who were doing freelance work at the time they applied, but I couldn't find in the forum anybody who's had an experience similar to mine. Therefore, some clarification is more than welcome if anyone can provide insights.
Let me give you more details :
I founded my consulting company two years ago (26 months exactly), started it as a freelance, but quickly incorporated after a year of steady growth, for obvious reasons (entrepreneur thrill, credibility, access to bigger clients, taxes). I have no employees, but had a bunch of lucky and talented interns, and have an ongoing business relationship with 3 to 5 freelancers (UX designers, Developers mostly). This part is covered, but imho a lot different than the freelance gigs.
Thus when asked for next steps in terms of position, my rationale is the following :
I can't be in a higher position, but I can develop new complementary service offerings to grow faster and get full-time employees
OR
Reduce the scope of the current service offering to focus on the fastest growing / more profitable service offering (which is what is actually happening). Still, no change in position per se, but more responsibilities (thought leadership, business development etc.)
However, I can clearly see the big red
OUT OF SCOPE sign when I try to tell this story, because this doesn't specifically answer the "next position" question, which is awkward from an entrepreneurial perspective.
Is there any way to spin this experience ?
Thanks a lot
