Thanks again, ABBBCCCCC.

The first thing to be aware of from an admissions standpoint for HBS 2+2 and Yale Silver Scholars is how competitive they are. According to HBS, the 2+2 program admitted 11% of 1,121 applicants for the Class of 2020, of which 44% were women and 21% were international. That implies that the admitted group included 14 or 15 international males. You are basically competing for one of those 14 or 15 spots. Yale Silver Scholars admits only a handful per year out of several hundred applicants. (There were only 100 Silver Scholars in a 15-year period.)

You have some great scores and nice experiences, but all applicants to these programs should be aware of the facts I've laid out above. That shouldn't discourage you from applying if you feel the desire and want to make your case -- you should absolutely feel empowered and do your best -- but from a life and career planning perspective, I would not suggest hanging one's hat on either of these outcomes. If you are one day interested in top MBA programs, the more likely path is to secure a great post-college position; work hard to advance positively impact others, and positively impact your organization and community; follow your passions; do unique things; lead people and help people; develop your post-MBA career goals, etc.

If you elect to apply, then you will really want to dissect what each program is looking for in candidates -- a select few among hundreds or thousands. Innovative thinking. Demonstrated leadership. Knowledge and passion to make a difference in the world. You'll typically find that competitive candidates have some truly unique and outstanding experiences, often beyond the typical "college extracurriculars," even if said extracurriculars involved leadership roles. Perhaps those experiences are lurking in what you've shared above. So read up on the programs in detail, and tell your story as best as you can. (And also develop a deep understanding of why these programs are most appropriate given your desired life and career trajectory. Be as specific and compelling as you can!)

Best Regards,
Greg
