Hi All,
I am deciding to go all in toward an MBA and have started to study for the GMAT, but I would like a little feedback in regards to my Profile since I am not a typical case.
Basics:
American, Male, 38 years old
First GMAT Prep Test - 580
GMAT Exam Date - Nov. 17, 2018.
Education:
Arizona State University, 2007 (3.2 GPA, Double-Major+minor)
- BS Architecture
- BS Construction Management
- minor - Urban Planning
- Extensive extra curricular activities in college, including Construction Management Academic Competition National Champion, Leadershape, Honors Society President, Student Athlete, etc.
Work Experience:
- Construction Manager for large US Firm for about 10 years. Progressed rapidly to Project Manager and led teams of staff up to 25 on projects up to $350 million.
- Construction Consultant for the past 1.5 years on Proton Therapy Center projects worldwide. Currently working in China on multiple large Proton Centers.
Outside of Work:
- Active with my Alumni Association in multiple countries. Leading efforts on fundraising events and initiating volunteering opportunities.
- Active with a local Expat Social group, assisting expats to familiarize themselves in a low-range Tier 2 city in China. Initiating and organizing volunteering and social activities.
- Enjoy practicing and learning languages. Not fluent yet, but practice Spanish, German, Dutch, and Mandarin daily.
I am ready to take on a new challenge, level up my business acumen and network, and jump to the next step in my life/career. At times I have slight interest in exploring a complete career change, but I am always brought back to the passion I have for the built environment. My current employer has very limited capacity/opportunity for advancement and development, it is great paying, but a challenge emotionally and limited mental stimulation. I would like to continue working internationally, and am looking to use this opportunity to step into a role at a global company.
I am mainly interested in MBA programs in Europe, but will consider a few US based schools as well.
My main question revolves around the level of schools that I should be aiming for.
I am able to dedicate a lot of time to studying right now, 3-4 hours per day. And will be using that time to develop the rest of my application materials as well. But I am starting the process very late for a 2019 intake, as well as late in my career. I know I have a good story, and will work to demonstrate that in my application documents, plus the time I am able to dedicate will definitely help to increase my GMAT score significantly.
Any thoughts and/or feedback is appreciated. If I have left out any info or if there are additional questions, please let me know.
Thanks.
JMM
