I was waitlisted by Washington University in st Louis last year and eventually rejected. I am
reapplying for admission into their full-time mba program and would like to know what to include or exclude from the letter.
Any insights are will be greatly appreciated.
Sokoletu,
The
reapplication letter that Olin requires is basically a cover letter that provides the data they ask for and formally asks them to consider you again for admission. Since they require you to rewrite your essays you will be making your real case for admission in those essays. However, you can use the cover letter as a highlight reel or overview of the reapplication essays. In other words, give them a brief (one-page max) keynote statement of the major things that have changed since you last applied, professionally, community-wise, and perhaps in your personal and academic life (e.g., if you've taken some courses in the past year). They can then get the full details on these improvements in your essays. You want this letter to set the tone (engaging, dynamic, confident) for the whole application and to pique their interest in the application as a whole.
Hope this helps,
