I’m seeking a profile evaluation, I’ll ideally be applying for matriculation 2021/22.
Education: Non-target, regional school
UGrad: BA Economics 2.6, somewhat explainable(mother was sick w/ cancer, had to assist two younger brothers)
Masters: Data Science type engineering program, 3.5 gpa
GMAT 750
WE: 3.5 year in Higher Education as budget analyst/accountant, no official promotion but became lead of my team.
Currently evaluating whether to stay in current position or move to one of the job offer I have: one is business/financial analyst in a completely different industry(transportation) and a second with a non-profit as a financial analyst that mirrors/expands greatly on current WE
Volunteer: currently volunteer with a local museum(6 months), would pickup volunteering with non-profit if I take that job.
Post-MBA Goals: Consulting ideally in the non-profit space, with the long term goal to eventually be in an executive role with a non-profit.
Dream School: UVA
Targets: Georgetown, Emory, UNC, Vanderbilt
My questions:
What can I do in the next 2-3 years to improve my chances?
Which job best increases my chances?
Any alternative MBA programs to look at?(location flexible but ideally east coast long term)

Hey twilson2442,
Thanks for posting! Your GMAT score is stellar and while the GPA is on the low end, you had significant mitigating circumstances. I would still recommend taking a course or two at a community college or online resource like HBX to show admissions you are serious about your academics.
On the job front, option 2 seems best since you want to remain in non-profit post-MBA. You'll improve your story, both with admissions and with on-campus recruiting, by accepting the second offer, especially if your responsibilities and direct reports increase.
As it stands, I think you have a solid shot at all of your target schools and even UVA. I think a couple of reach schools could be added to that list too such as Fuqua, Ross, and Stern. All do very well with both non-profit work and non-profit consulting.
Continue to work hard at your new job and really begin to think about what managers will write about you for their recommendations and how your day-to-day activities play into that. - Though UG is low, your master's looks fine. Were both from the same school? The GMAT will help; further actions on GPA mitigation might be useful though not mandatory I'd say.
- The nature of your job and employer is not very clear - also, will be good to understand specific achievements/impact delivered therein. The options need to be delved deeper into - while the second one might look ok, it will depend on the brand the more details. Your next best alternative might just be to do nothing on job front too.
- Another question to think about would be, why wait till 2021 or 2022? Why not 2020 - you'd be in about the right ballpark for most schools in terms of experience range.
- If you do decide to wait and work on the profile, you may want to consider this intervention.
