What type of job do I need for a top 10 MBA?
adale,
You have some impressive numbers. An MSF is a master's in finance? That adds value if it's relevant to your career goals. As for the type of job, B-schools will not expect you to be negotiating million-dollar transactions right out of school, so concentrate on finding a job that is relevant to your career goals, that challenges you, and that gives you leadership/initiative opportunities (a tall order, I know). A job with a prestige firm where you just photocopy all day helps you not at all.
Some things to consider since you are aiming high: get involved in a community or volunteer activity where you can get leadership (directing people) opportunities since it will be tough to get those in your first year of work. Second, you could boldly spend your first year out of school in some activity not directly related to your goals--that is, some one- or two-year project for a non-profit overseas, for example. Even a year working for a finance-related firm in a foreign company might pay dividends for you.
Good luck,
