Hi Linda and Paul,
I had a couple of questions/queries:
1. Do MIT, Darden and Kellogg's favor/consider early career applicants? Can someone with a 2 years work experience get in MIT or Kellogg's, provided he or she has shown leadership at work? Are there cases where such applicants have actually got in?
2. I did my undergrad from India and scored a first class. I was among the top 10% of my class. However, on paper, my results show as 62%. How can I let the adcoms know that what could be considered as an 'average' percentage was, in fact, among the top 10% of the class
3. I did my undergrad in mechanical engineering from India (first class with honors), MS in mechanical engineering (GPA 4.0), GMAT 720, am involved in the community, started a web designing company while I was in India which did well. I have been working full-time at a top manufacturing company. My plans are to return to India to start a manufacturing company of my own. I will have the support of my family business which is also related to mechanical/manufacturing.
I have a specific plan and idea for my company. Do I go into details of this plan in my essays or will that be considered overdoing it?
Given my profile, I am looking at Kellogg's (MMM), MIT, Michigan (TMI), Cornell, Darden, Yale, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon... I am looking for a training in general management and manufacturing/operations.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

1. Of those 3 schools, MIT is the one most likely to admit someone with only 2 years of work experience, which falls (just) within the middle 80% of their admittees work experience totals. For Kellogg and Darden the lower edge of their admittees' middle 80% in work experience is 3 years, so the odds are tougher there.
2. This is a non-issue. Schools have people on staff who make the conversions and they know what you want them to know. You could include a two-sentence addendum in your application explaining this if you want to.
3. Yes, you go into details in your essays about your post-MBA plans. You don't need to give them a formal business plan, but get as meaty as you can. Doing so will put you ahead of the majority of applicants who don't really know.

I do realise that my two years may be looked at unfavorably at Kellogg's and Darden....
Here is a quick roundup of my profile:
1. Undergrad: Mechanical Engineering from Univ. of Bombay (First class with Honors)
2. MS: Mechanical engineering (GPA: 4.0)
3. GMAT: 720
4. Working full-time at a top manufacturing firm in the US (will have more than 2 years work ex)
5. Community involvement (serving on the planning committee of an event)
6. Started a webdesigning company while I was doing my undergrad in India just because of my passion for design. It did quite well and I got a few projects (I quit it when I came to the US)
7. Worked on a research project while doing my MS
8. Know 5 languages, member of ASME
9. Work experience has given my two projects which display my leadership quality
10. Took up an economics class at a local college and received an A
11. Plans: Return to India to start a manufacturing company after working about two years in the US post-MBA. I have specific plans. Moreover, my family business is related to mechanical engineering. I do not plan to 'expand and diversify' the family business but rather, simply use the resources/infrastructure/network/contacts to build my own company
12. I am looking for training in general management and operations/manufacturing from an MBA
13. I believe I am ready as my current work experience has provided me the necessary ideas for my future
14. I think the uncommon aspects of my profile (though India, male, non-IT) are: Dedication to mechanical engineering; the flow of my academic and professional years are very much aligned to my future goals; born and brought up in India but studied and worked in the US
Will I be differentiated from the Indian pool?
15. Based on my profile, I am considering:
Kellogg's (MMM),
MIT,
Michigan (TMI),
Cornell,
Yale,
UCLA,
Carnegie Mellon
Some quick questions for you:
