Hi all,
First things first: Thanks for helping me out
I am unsure whether going to business school is the right thing for me and would kindly ask your advice on it. This is driven by two factors:
1. I would like to break into media BUT don’t know what role exactly
2. I don’t know whether business school helps me to break into the media industry
Background: I graduated a few years ago with a degree in social sciences and thereafter took on a role as a management consultant. I have done this job for 2-3 years now but have become so unhappy with it that I think I want to quit. Instead, I would like to do something more creative, e.g., a strategy role for a music label/film production company or even being a content creator like a podcast host. Unfortunately, I have close to zero experience in the industry and no network I could leverage.
Given this messy situation, I would like to use an MBA to:
a) Help me figure out the exact role I would fit in in media (this would require some “creative” freedom)
b) Create a network that helps me break into the industry
Would business school meet these two goals? If so, which schools in particular? While at school, how could I make sure that I fulfill these points?

Maastricht92 as someone who has an MBA and went into media, I would not recommend paying $200K for it, honestly. There is no real expectation of higher education in that industry and they don't pay very well, so paying off loans would be a burden.
If loans are a non issue then yes, go for it. I will say I very much enjoyed my time in media, it was fun and exciting, however you are not always working with the brightest bulbs so keep that in mind.
Account Planning is an MBA-level role in an advertising agency; there are also strategy roles in NYC and LA at corporate (for example, I worked with someone in this role at NBC who was seeking an EMBA.)
I myself was a Marketing Research Manager coming out of my MBA, focused on both subscribers and ad revenue; also ended up doing ad campaigns for internal promotions.
If I had to do it over, I would start with doing informational interviews, develop some connections, join the local ad Club and AAA (advertising association of america) and get an internship or start from the bottom. I had a lot to gain from an MBA; my work experience was really weak but you have something more substantive.
What is stopping you from being a content creator right here right now? If you are looking for a strategy role I would recommend you create a brief but compelling survey/letter and send it as inmail to key targets on LinkedIn.
