Hi Paul:
I've been surfing the boards and I keep coming across the phrase "IT Indian". I know that the Indian applicant pool is competitive. However is the IT pool more so?
Basically, what I'm asking is this. I'm India . I'm also an Engineer. However, I work in Product Marketing and I'm more on the hardware side (read no programming and no IT). My job is more about strategic positioning, marketing, and growth of a product be in technical. Does this put me in a different pool from the "IT Indian" for whom the apparent GMAT mark is bumped up from 680 to 720? My current plans do not include retaking the GMAT as my current score is a pretty evenly spread 710.
Thanks,
MBA
MyBschoolApp,
No, you would not be in the "IT Indian" category. However, you would be in the "technology Indian" pool, which is another quite crowded category with high GMATs. So just like the "IT Indian" you will have to do a good job of making sure you stand out (which can be done in innumerable ways). Luckily, you have a 710 which is good enough, so I would focus on other areas where you can pull yourself away from the pack: leadership experiences, unusual and intensively pursued hobbies or volunteer activities, personal and engaging essays, etc.
Good luck!
