Gap year post 2 years of Work Ex, should I apply for 2020 intake?

Hi,

I am an Indian female with engineering degree, and have worked for 2.6 years (2 years full time and 6 month internship) as an analyst, in a consultancy firm.

I started with my GMAT preparation in May'19, and was planning to give my test by September, so that I can apply for 2020 intake; as by that time my work ex would be a little >3 years, and since I had a good career trajectory (including: early promotion, appreciation award), I hoped to get into colleges like ISB, if I can manage a decent score on the GMAT.

But, due to some personal reasons, I had to quit my job to be at home for 3 months (From June'19).

Since my preparation got a little off in this duration, should I consider not going back to work, instead put my full focus on GMAT and applications for successful round 2 apply? Will I still have a chance at MBA 2020 intake with just 2 years of experience, and an year gap, if I manage a decent GMAT score. Or should I instead apply for MiM courses?

I understand the post include a lot of questions, but any kind of info/suggestions would be great help.

You're asking about a couple of different subjects, so we should break all of this down into pieces. First, for Admissions questions - including how a 'gap' in your Work Experience might impact your applications - you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. As far as your GMAT studies are concerned, before I can offer you any advice, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) What study materials have you used so far?
2) When was the last time you took a CAT/mock and how have you scored on EACH of your CATs/mocks (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
3) What is your goal score?

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

I will surely put my query in suggested thread.

As for GMAT preparation, I have solved through quant review and verbal review, and am currently working on OG. I gave an official mock around a month back, and got 650 (Q48,V32), and I am aiming to improve this score to 730. I am having difficulty mainly in SC and RC section, any suggestion in those area would be really helpful, as there are so many resources/books available, that it's confusing.

Hi jimar,

If that's the only recent practice CAT Score that you have - and it's a month old - then we don't have a clear sense of your current GMAT skills, strengths and weaknesses right now. As such, I suggest that you take a NEW, FULL-LENGHT CAT and make sure to take it in a realistic fashion (take the FULL CAT - with the Essay and IR sections, take it away from your home, at the same time of day as when you'll take the Official GMAT, etc.). Once you have that score, you should report back here and we can discuss the results; you can also feel free to PM me directly.
