Hey everybody - can you please help review my profile?
Age: 29
GMAT: 730
Background: white male
Current Job: 2 1/2 years as IT-Consulting (Tier 3)
Undergraduate: GPA 2.5 (business informatics)
Postgraduate: 4.0 (business informatics); best of class 2017
Additional information:
- I had to finance my studies myself, which is why I mainly worked
- 2 academic publications during my postgraduate
- Member of lions club (2 years)
- Earned medal of honour for civil courage from my city
Other work experience
- 1 year IT Company (part-Time)
- 1 1/2 year as programmer for Bank (part-time)
- 1 year in Startup (raised and sold)
- 1 year Consulting
immediate MBA goal: To transition to consulting at MBB with focus on tech companies and then eventually transition into a strategy role at a tech company
Which schools are suitable for me at all? Top 10? Top 20?
How much does the poor undergraduate result influence my applications?
How much should I mention in my essay that I could only study because I was working?

- The educational pedigree is a bit of a mixed bag obviously. What's not clear is the pedigree/brand of your schools. The GPA definitely mattersand there are ways to work around that. The GMAT score will definitely help. Make sure to use that optional essay well, without making it sound as an excuse.
- The professional experience arc is not very clear. It's not clear what Tier 3 means really in IT Consulting. Also not sure what the actual nature of your job is. The transition from classic IT Consulting to MBB is not a linear one usually. But, that depends on what you actually mean by IT Consulting since that's a very loosely used terminology.
- You've mentioned two of the 4 other work-experience as not part-time. Would that make your total experience as 4 years? Any gaps between undegrad and grad? If these were all part-time, can showcase these as part of ECs arc too.
- For reasons mentioned here, we don't speculate on school selection chances. That being said, if your total experience is only 2.5 years, applying this year could be tad early as the average experience is in the 4-5 years range.
