Hi guys!
I'm looking to get into a health sector MBA program, and narrowed my choices to Ivey (Western) and Schulich (York). GMATs are over, and apps are in - I've already got an acceptance to Schulich, and Ivey wants to interview me next week. My professional experience has been in the pharmaceutical industry, and I am mainly interested in the Health Sector MBA focus - particularly from a Canadian perspective. I'm weighing my options - any suggestions or advice??
As I see it:
Schulich is a top ranked Canadian school, with the largest MBA program in the country. I think their incoming class is upwards of 140? Their MBA program has had a Health Sector specialization option for several years, and York has the distinction of running it without an affiliated med school. (Pro or con? They say pro, since there is no bias.) 2 year (min 16 month thru summer) program. Part time option obviously takes longer, but you can change PT/FT streams. Large international presence. I'm not sure of the size of the health sector specialization class. From a personal perspective, my husband has also been accepted into Shulich, and will be going in the part time stream. (every other weekend) We would be commuting together.
Ivey has a great reputation, and has recently adopted a Cross Enterprise Leadership school of thought for their MBA program. From what I can gather, it appears to be what McMaster's med school is to other Canadian med schools, in the Canadian MBA program pool. Case based - no lecture format, small classes. The incoming class is 65, and they are looking for 10 people in the Health Sector management stream. This stream is new to Ivey, with its first class coming in this October. (an evolution of their biotechnology specialization stream) 12 month, full time intensive program. From a personal perspective, I'd probably be best to move to London. I could live with my sister, who is attending med school there, but would an hour drive from my husband!
Does anyone know more about either program/school? I'm planning to take Ivey's first class on the road, and visit both campuses. I'm at a big fork in the road right now!
Thanks!
