Education :
2013 - 2016
Bachelors in Science - Hotel Management (Tier-1)
Score : 63% (Extra Ordinary life situations)
2018 - Ongoing (ends in June 2020)
Masters in Education - IGNOU (very well respected Govt of India run distance education university)
Majoring in Education Technology
Score : 75% (expected)
GMAT : 770
Age : 27 (January born)
Work Experience : Would be around 4 years by the time I apply in 2020.
July 2016 - May 2017
Restaurant Manager - $300,000 P&L role
Domino's Pizza
Was promoted once, attended one international conference in Malaysia. The job had become highly repetitive and I didn't feel like learning much.
July 2017 - Feb 2018
Sport Leader - was responsible for taking care of business worth $1.3M along with 4 others. Work was entrepreneurial in nature (imagine owning a retail space in a big store).
Decathlon Sports - Retail vertical
No promotion, scope and speed of learning was not satisfactory.
June 2018 - Ongoing
Business Development Manager - Leading a team of 10 associates bringing over $1.2M of business.
Think & Learn Private Ltd.
Think & Learn is a unicorn startup in the education technology industry and is by far the biggest player in India. Apparently, the highest valued edtech company in the world. Has just began to expand internationally.
Employment gap due to extra ordinary family situations.
Extras :
- Active member at a mid sized non profit organisation helping unprivileged children in getting quality education. Work includes leading teams of volunteers, teaching classes, raising funds, managing small events.
- Beginner Mountaineer (have climbed multiple peaks over 20,000 feet)
- Ex Junior Cricketer, now, playing in the corporate leagues.
Career Goal :
Short Term - Work as a Strategy Consultant at Mckinsey focusing on issues in the education sector.
Long Term - Start a company in the edtech space with a vision of providing affordable quality education in the developing world.
Target Schools - Wharton, Booth, MIT Sloan, Columbia, Kellogg, Ross, respecting the order.
Please evaluate my overall profile with respect to the above mentioned schools.

Hi Popla
- Congrats on your solid GMAT score. You also have variety of experience across sectors, which is great.
- While you do have some career gaps in between, they are fairly short and should be explainable.
- The things to tackle for you will be explaining why you switched jobs multiple times early in your career (learning reaching a plateau may not be plausible reasons given your short tenures).
- ECA is decent and should work.
- Goals will need a deeper look. Your work with Byju's (and your earlier stints) aren't really aligned to your post-MBA goal. Per your long-term goal of entrepreneurship in EdTech, why not just stay with Byju's (an EdTech unicorn) and create impact there (apart from the entrepreneurial angle)?
- At this point, you are well poised, but some things need to be polished up to aspire for the M7. You can get there, but it will take the right planning and execution to build solid apps for these schools.

- Your academic pedigree and performance looks sub-par. Not sure if Tier1 meant within the country or outside though. Be ready to explain the reason for the low GPA. The expectations on this count are quite punishing when it comes to top league programs. While the GMAT will help, lack of math/science/stats/accounting courses (?) may mean there is more you need to do.
- The professional story sounds quite promising and the transition in a BD role, given the start in a very different area, should help you differentiate well. However, as noted already, the multiple job changes will need to be explained. It is also not clear if you've had any career acceleration to speak of. Lack of that can make your profile appear a bit opportunistic so be wary of that. Also, make sure to address the gaps in your career well.
- Given the above situation, it might be prudent to consider waiting another year, further consolidating your professional profile, and then applying.
- The ECs arc does sound good. Make sure to leverage and quantify the impact well.
