Firstly I would like to thank for providing a forum. Secondly, I would greatly appreciate it if you could
• Evaluate my profile and advise whether I stand a realistic chance in getting into a part time MBA program
• Advise where I could possibly improve my application
Potential schools in consideration (due to work & family commitment) – Part time program
• UC-Berkeley, Hass School of Business
• Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University
My Profile
Age / Country of Citizenship
• 35 – Married
• India, US Permanent Resident (resided in US for the last 10yrs)
Education:
• Bachelors in Finance (3yrs) from Bangalore University, India (GPA: Pass Class)
• Diploma in computer science (First class)
• Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from PMI
Work Experience: 14yrs in Information Technology field
• I have worked for the same company for the last 9yrs in varying capacities. Started as a senior programmer analyst. 3yrs later transitioned into management position (Supervisor -> Sr. Supervisor -> Sr. Staff Project Manager). Over the last 6yrs I have managed teams of 3 to 30+ members, depending on the nature (Small, Medium and Large) of the project.
• Prior to this, I have worked in India as a software engineer / programmer and in Singapore as Technical consultant
GMAT Score
• Around 650 (not taken yet, but I expect to score at least this much as I do not have a strong Mathematical background)
Extracurricular activities
• No extracurricular activities that would make a difference!
Recommendation
• I am confident of obtaining strong recommendation letters from my immediate manager & VP.
Post MBA goal
• Much that I have learned today about how to run large projects and strategic program/project planning has been based on the job. An MBA offers me an opportunity to develop more formal skill sets to do the same things with greater emphasis on understanding how the business is run as a whole rather than an understanding at a project or program level.
In closing, even though I am doing reasonably well professionally, I understand my undergrad grade score as one of my biggest weaknesses for getting into an MBA program. I plan on explaining the situation behind why my focus was not on studies during my undergrad days (in the application through optional essay)

You can be optimistic about Santa Clara, but Haas will be a longshot because of your GMAT, lack of extracurriculars, and undergrad GPA (though since that was so long ago it's not a big factor). To improve your odds at Haas, I recommend that you start networking like crazy with Haas students and alumni. This will show your interest, give you personalized Why Haas info for your essays, and could result in letters of support down the road. If you can get even into the 670-680 GMAT range you'll be doing yourself a favor. It's never too late (almost) to start a major community involvement. Sure, they'll know you're doing it to get in, but they care more about impact and takeaways then motivations. If you have any distinctive personal stories about overcoming obstacles or any personal passions that make you stand out consider working them into your essays to separate yourself from the crowd.
