Thank you Paul. Here is a related re-apply question. How can I put a "wow" factor when presenting my professional and leadership experience. Many of us applicants have very solid experience (professionally or community wise), but how can we make this stand out among many outstanding applicants?

patrickpui,

The "wow" factor in my mind means two things (and if you can combine them, the wow-ness increases): magnitude of impact (as reflected hopefully in hard numbers) and the unusual-ness of the activity. If you have a lot of stories where your impact was significant and many or all of them seem distinctive or unusual relative to other applicants you've probably entered the "wow" zone.

I would focus your goal a bit too. Financial services firm?? To me that sounds like brokerage. Essentially facilitating those who wish to invest, not making investment decisions. Investment managment/advisory business is substainally different. Do you wish to facilitate self directed investment or do you wish to manage for customers. Rather different goals, I'd choose one and flesh it out. Of course your background is impressive.

I think you should apply with some safety schools. There are many excellent University that aren't in the top 7. I think you could get into UCLA, although UC Irvine, which is located in the Orange County region, also has a great program and they are right in the middle of one of the most largest epicenters of fortune 500 companies anywhere in the U.S.. What about MIT? They are in the top 10. With that quant and international work experience background, you will be a good fit. They are also well known for diversity and accommodate many international students with supports networks. Many top paid CEO's (especially from the high tech industry) goto MIT sloan business school.
