Intended Matriculation: Fall 2023

Academics
GMAT: 740 (Q: 49, V: 41)
Undergraduate Institution: Top 15 (U.S. News & World Report)
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.60/4.00

Work Experience
Current Role: Project Manager for Fortune 500 Aerospace Company (think Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, Raytheon/United Technologies)

Long-Term: Hope to become a CEO or COO at a large engineering company in the aerospace or autonomous/EV industry.

Please let me know your thoughts on my admissions chances at H/S/W as well as feedback on what aspects of my candidacy I should focus on improving. Thank you!

Hi there FromGMATtoMBA,

Thank you for sharing! Overall, your profile is quite solid. Your academics look good, and it seems that you have some noteworthy examples of leadership, both through your work experience and extracurriculars.

That said, a lot will come down to how you articulate your personal story. Defining your story may be the hardest and the most important part of the application and Personal MBA Coach advises candidates to start this process months in advance.

Another factor to consider is expanding your school list. We recommend applying to at least 5 schools to maximize your chances of acceptance. While Harvard, Wharton, and Stanford are great choices, you may want some “safer” schools on your list. All business schools look to fill their classes with diverse candidates, and you cannot always predict which school might need someone who fits your profile. Adding a broad range of schools helps to balance this.

Take a look at Personal MBA Coach’s comprehensive services if you would like to learn how we can help you put together strong applications to get you into these top schools.

Do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected] to learn how we can further enhance your candidacy.

Best,
Personal MBA Coach

Hi FromGMATtoMBA,

Thanks for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. Talking about your stats, your undergrad GPA is good, and with a 740 GMAT score, it is defining your academic potential.

On the work front, working in a Fortune 500 aerospace company can help to amplify the effect your projects would have created. The most critical aspect of an application is work experience. It seems that you have significant leadership experience. I would suggest that you demonstrate the instance where you stepped up in a leadership position. This will put forth leadership qualities in your application. To evaluate your profile comprehensively, I need to know your career progression and what impact you created on the company.

Your ECs are good, especially that you are a mentor for refugees and underprivileged students. You should highlight this in your application (going to be very valuable). Along with this, you will need to demonstrate certain characteristics that are unique to you and strong, such as passion or resilience, that can set you apart from others.

Overall you have a good profile and had a decent shot at H/S/W. Make sure you specify how b-school can help you fill gaps in the profile and achieve your goals. What's going to matter most about your application is how you link experiential dots and make a great narrative.

If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and gauge your fit for the b-school. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Let’s maximize your chances for US Schools.

Cheers!

Hi FromGMATtoMBA

Thanks for posting. Here are some points to think through:
- You have 2 years of experience so far, in both engineering and project management roles. Possibly waiting for one more year before you apply, to get more managerial and project management experience, may be beneficial, especially for M7 schools. Your GMAT/GPA is good and within what they look for.
- Aerospace consulting is a niche practice, and usually much smaller than other ones. It would not be available at many offices at well. Given your long-term goals, the PM aspect is better and closer to your objectives. Autonomous/EV depends on your skill set so far. You may even think about returning to Aerospace in value chain / PM roles.
- While the CFA certification can help in some roles, in your current path, and at L1, it has limited value.
- The ECA seem significant, but how do they relate to who you are and what you stand for?

Hope this helps. Please feel free to come back with more questions as needed or to contact us directly at our email in our signature below for a 1-1 discussion.
