Paul,
I'm not sure if you'd have this knowledge or if someone else would, but I'm very interested in a career in corporate social responsibilty (CSR). I realize that few schools have this as a concentration or major so I'm hoping to focus on strategy/management but within this focus on csr. It seems to be a growing trend in business. Also, my non-profit background would seem to make it somewhat of a logical move and not way out of left field (like if I wanted to go into finance). Because some of the schools I'll be applying to don't have a csr major, do you think this would hurt my application? Do you know of any schools that look upon interest in CSR favorably? Is this a specific enough goal for my essays?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
cmns18,
You need to define your goals within the corporate social responsibility umbrella much more concretely. Schools that don't have strong CSR programs will wonder why you're applying given your goals. But a good resource for deciding which CSR schools to target is Beyond Grey Pinstripes. They list schools in terms of those that are at "the cutting edge" of CSR (George Washington, Michigan, North Carolina (Kenan-Flagler), Stanford, Yale, and York (Schulich)), and those who have "significant activity." So use their list as a starting point and then drill down to carve out a specific niche and plan for yourself in CSR post-MBA.
Good luck,
