Hi everybody,
As many of you are also in the same position as me, I am starting to consider a plan B if not admitted in this current round.
I've applied to CBS, HBS, Booth so far all rejected.
Basically I have a non traditional background and don't belong to any minorities group (I am white, engineer, male and straight).
What are my chances of getting in into the other programs?
- I have a consultant helping me in the process (one of the best here in Brazil)
- I have extensive volunteering background / extra coursework / extra curricular activities
- GRE = 324 (Q162/V162/AWA 4.5)
- Masters degree (USP)
- Bachelor in Mechatronics (1st in admission exam, 1st in class rank, full scholarship student of exchange program at KIT – Germany)
- Internship at Porsche Headquarters (Germany)
- Head of business development at Porsche – lead groups of +15 people in strategic projects
- Currently Private Banker in a family office in Brazil – promoted to Private Department dealing with UHNW customers within 14 months
- Want to move to PE/VC

Sorry to hear about the status of you recent applications. While rejection can be discouraging, do not give up: Personal MBA Coach successfully guides reapplicants every year.
Although your profile sounds good on paper, articulating a strong personal personal story will be key for your application success. In other words, your MBA applications must stand out. The reader should come away understanding who you are, what you are passionate about and why these passions are significant to you. It should be clear how you are unique from your peers. If your application essays could have been written by any other candidate in a similar role, it will be difficult for you to stand out and be memorable. Successful candidates are memorable! This does not mean you need to save a third world country, of course. It all comes down to story and execution.
Another important factor to consider is the consistency of your applications. All aspects of your application should tie together. This includes your essays, resumes, extracurriculars and LORs. The strengths you share should match those cited in your recommendations. If your recommenders paint a picture of a detail-oriented candidate while your essays focus on your free-spirited nature, the reader will be confused. Similarly, your activities should align with your passions and expertise and your weaknesses should be consistent. If any two pieces of your application do not fit together this will raise a red flag about your intentions and sincerity.
For better or worse, sometimes it will come down to numbers. While we use compelling personal stories to help our clients from overrepresented backgrounds stand out, diversity is important in the MBA classroom. You cannot fill an entire class with former MBB consultants or, in your case, engineers. This “numbers game” is why we always advise candidates to broaden their school lists (5 to 8 schools to maximize your chances of acceptance).

You must have worked hard on those hundred drafts of essays before finally submitting your applications, nudging your recommenders tens of times to submit the letters before deadlines, working your ass off on your exam, and finally getting that confidence to hit the submit button, and it's difficult not to have a final yes. However, having a backup plan is always preferable.
On the surface, your profile appears to be in good shape. However, it is important to demonstrate this on paper. Retrospect, take some time to assess your application. Analyze your flaws that resulted in rejections from your dream schools. What may be the reason behind this? Some obvious weaknesses in the profile, not having enough time to finish apps, not being able to connect the dots and bring employability in applications, not digging deep to obtain the true self, and an absence of clarity post-mba goals are all possible grounds for rejection.
