Hi there, a little bit of background about myself:
I'm an Indian expat who's born and raised in Dubai, after which I attended the National Institute of Technology, Warangal (Top 10-15 engineering school in India) to complete my Engineering degree. I moved back to Dubai and landed a job as a Product Sales Specialist in a Cloud-Based SaaS product company (Dubai based start-up) where I worked for about 15 months.
I was later promoted and transferred to Singapore within the same company where I was tasked with opening, leading, & building their South East Asia regional HQ and GTM strategy from ground zero as a Country Head. I hired, trained, and manage 8 employees across the Sales, Operations, and Administrative Teams in Singapore and KL.
Broadly speaking my role covers Business Development, Sales, Strategic Partnerships, & Operations at a regional level. I have been in this role for about 3.5 years (44 months to be precise) so I have a combined work experience of over 5 years.
I'm now exploring options to pursue a one year or maximum 16 months MBA program at a top school in the US, Canada, UK, or EU preferably top 20 globally, to increase my chances of getting into a top tech firm in a similar role but with a much nicer paycheque
However, I feel the one thing that could really go against my application is my poor undergrad CGPA which was 6.2/10 which is something like a 2.6 or 2.7/4 in US standards (Yes, I thought engineering would be something I'd like to do but soon realized it wasn't my cup of tea and just about managed to get it done with, in 4 years).
I'm yet to give my GMAT which I should probably give in around 3 months' time (think it'll take me about that much time to prepare). What does go in my favor though is solid International Business experience in 2 global hubs combined with a very meaningful quality of work (essentially building & operating a company from scratch fairly successfully - even though it's not my company).
In terms of extracurriculars, I was into public speaking, Model UN, Business Quiz, Swimming, Football in High School & University. Currently, other interests I pursue outside work are wakeboarding, wake surfing, Padel Tennis, Tennis, etc. Also involved in some volunteering work with NGOs from time to time for blue-collar foreign workers in Singapore. I can also speak in 4 languages - English, Hindi, Tamil, & Telugu along with basic knowledge to read & write Arabic.
I should also be able to get decent Letters of Recommendation from the CEO & CTO of my company.
I'd like to get some opinions and feedback if my ambition to get into a top 20 school for MBA is realistic given the above scenarios. Appreciate your taking the time to read this long post

Hello Athandu,
You have a good CV with decent extracurriculars. The international business experience you have gained is invaluable and will go a long way if presented well in your application. You are at the right stage in your career now to plan for your MBA and I suggest you can start exploring the right school fit for you. This means that you need to brainstorm more on what kind of career you would like to have post MBA. Once you are able to introspect and figure out your career path the B-school can be selected accordingly.
Don't worry too much about your academics. You can just check the equivalent GPA at WES calculator online. If it's above the eligibility requirement of the program, you can apply. The best way to deal with weak academics is through a high GMAT score and also addressing in a creative way in your essays.
You can't change your past academics but these are in your control now.
At General Education, we conduct multiple brainstorming sessions with our MBA alumni and senior admissions experts. This way we make a SWOT analysis of your profile set the foundations for your SOP and Application Essays. Then we strategize on aligning them with the B-school's requirements. Your work experience appears to be excellent, with a significant amount of international experience as well as elements of leadership and initiative. You will need to highlight your career progression prominently in order to project the picture of a high-performing individual. To bring a person into your application, try to bring a good blend of your professional and personal self. You'll need to demonstrate how you're a perfect fit by showcasing your career development. Highlight the projects you've worked on and how they've influenced the organization's growth and development. Your work experience is great; all you need to do is showcase it effectively.
Your ECs are also impressive. Your involvement in so many extracurricular activities demonstrates your dynamic personality. I'm sure that stories about all of this will add diversity to your apps. You need to connect all of these dots and explain how these experiences shaped your personality.
Overall, you have a strong profile and a good chance of getting into one of the top 20 business schools. I'd like to know about your post-MBA goals because they'll help shortlist b-schools for you. You may want to read an article on best one year MBA program in US, and top MBA programs in Europe you will get some insights. What's going to matter most in your application is how you connect all the experiential dots and build up a great story.
