Dear Paul,

so, I've been waitlisted @ GSB. There's no way I want this opportunity to slip away.

I am a resident of Russia and I have never been to the US.

Do you think that it is worth the effort investing time and money (a substantial sum for me) into visiting GSB before the next round of decisions? They explicitly state that visiting GSB will not have any impact on the decisions re. waitlisted, but is it so?

Helg,

I think there are more impactful things you can do to get off their wait-list short of paying an expensive visit. Submitting wait-list letters (see the chapter in my book) and getting new recommenders or friends to submit letters of support can help you more. You might tell them in one of your wait-list letters that you are quite willing to come to the campus if they thought it would make a difference. This at least sends them the right message. A trip would certainly demonstrate the strength of your interest, but it's hard to gauge it's actual impact on your admission chances. Maybe give the wait-list letter process a few months and then if you're feeling even more sure that Chicago is for you, you could reconsider the question of making the trip.
