Hello everybody,
Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I'm 28yo and planning to apply for American bschools for classes starting in 2024/2025. I have quite some time to prepare and hope to get a 740+ score on GMAT
I joined a renowned military high school at the age of 16. Afterwards, at the age of 19, I joined and attended the Air Force academy for 5 years, where I got my undegrad degree and master's degree in Aerospace Sciences. GPA should be 3.9 (Italian grade being 105/110).
I've been a fighter pilot for the Italian Air Force since then, but never done any real abroad missions. Still got some experience tho: I trained for almost one year in Texas with top American, German, Danish, Turkish pilots, just to tell some.
I'm starting a long process to leave the AF because I'd like to change career and I dream of joining one of the top 10 bschools, but I really don't know whether my profile is a right fit. I'd consider top 20 in case I couldn't make it. My goal is to get a general management job in the US.
What do you think my odds are?

Hi marcoplebs,
From what you have described, you have the raw material.
A lot will depend on Clear career goals aligned well to your profile, decent extra-curriculars, and of course a compelling story that aligns your journey to a rather unusual choice (Airforce to Business).
If you are able to present a well-polished application to the adcom, and a 740 GMAT, you stand a chance in the top 10 with scholarships.
You have time on your side. Best to start preparing early.

This is Alessandro from MB Career Consultants. I am also Italian and completed my MBA from Insead. I now work in mgmt consulting in London, UK.
First off, I think you have a great profile to apply to any top tier B-school. But I think you should do some introspection and figure out your long term aspirations I.e. which country do you want to work in? What work would make you satisfied (short and long term). Depending on this, you should be selective about the schools you apply to.
You should definitely work on the GMAT and once your score is confirmed, you can target the schools more effectively.
