Hi all.

I need an evaluation for my profile with the following details.

- Background and nationality: 27 Years Male from Indonesia
- Education: 2018 graduated from Top 3 University (Bachelor in Industrial Engineering) with GPA 3.87/4.00
- Working Experience: More than 4 years of working experience in a unicorn company. Currently, I am at the manager level and have been promoted 4 times since joining the company. I am leading the business strategy planning and execution for non-Indonesia markets. In doing my job, I am coordinating with various stakeholders from marketing, product management, supply, and finance team, and I am liaising with international team as well. Lastly, I have an intern as my direct report.
- GMAT: 690 (1st attempt) 49 Quant, 34 Verbal, 8 IR
- IELTS: 8.0
- Target MBA School : INSEAD, Cambridge, London Business School, Stanford, and Harvard

Also, any suggestions on whether I should retake the GMAT?

Thank you

Hi AldinoD,
Given that you are planning to apply to some of the most competitive programs in the world (some with class average GMAT upward of 730) I would strongly recommend you retake the GMAT. You have enough time until September to do so, although you should finish taking it by May-June so that you can solely concentrate on your applications. These timelines should be kept in mind for a second retake in case your second attempt does not go too well.
The work experience is good and career progression matters a great deal. You have not mentioned about extra curricular activities - if you haven't built this aspect of your profile, now is the time to take up some meaningful activities where you can make an impact on other people.

hi.

thank you for the recommendation and evaluation. If I want to focus on INSEAD, Cambridge, and LBS, three of them have around 690-710 GMAT average, should I retake the test? also, what is the typical extracurricular activities that are meaningful for the application? I had past experience becoming part of student union (appointed to lead a project) and lecturer assistant. will it be hepful?

thank you

I would consider 690 as still low for these programs. You have the time in hand to retake so I suggest you should. Although if you apply with a 690 GMAT score and don't make it to any of your target programs, it would be difficult to pin point to the GMAT score as the main reason for a ding. However, by applying with a higher score, you can have the satisfaction that you made your best effort and hope for a positive outcome.
Typically those ECAs are helpful where you can make an impact on other people- these could be volunteering at an NGO, joining employee enhancement groups at work, mentoring other people, helping small businesses, working with the government on short projects - any activity where you can improve other peoples lives through your effort. In return, such an experience would also enrich you.
The other kind of ECAs could be about pursuing an interest or a hobby like playing a sport. These are also valid, just that you would be less likely to help others around you.
Leadership experience is always important- be it at work or outside. So, your role in the college union is relevant, but its a little old experience now. you would want to show the adcom more recent achievements in addition to this.

Your profile seems good based on our evaluation of whatever details are provided. However, we would need more details on your career growth and extracurricular and volunteering involvements to give a more detailed review. Below is an analysis of details shared by you.

Academics: Seems strong

Work experience: 4+ years in a unicorn company is good. You have not mentioned what your post-MBA goals are. You must highlight specific instances from your work experience according to your target role to showcase transferable skills and employability. Also, regardless of the target goal, you must highlight leadership and analytical problem-solving skills.

GMAT score: 690 is within the range for the mentioned schools but is below the average GMAT score of ~720. Your GPA and strong work experience can compensate for a slightly lower GMAT score but then you should try to improve your GMAT score if you have the necessary time and resources. It is always best to put your best foot forward on all fronts, especially if you feel you can score higher. If you decide to retake, plan your test date keeping in mind the deadlines for your target schools.

Good luck!

Hey, this seems like a great profile for a top school, but I believe more in-depth review would be required to get an idea of the odds to get into the schools
