Hey guys!
A little brief about me before I dive deep in:
I’m a 22 year old, BTech Computer science graduate. ( 7.9 GPA) ~ 3.16/4 from PES university, India ( it’s one of the top 50 in my country) I think at least.
I want to pursue my Masters in Management in 2025.
I currently have 7 months FTE experience + 6 months internship in the same company. I work for one of the Big Fours as a tech consultant. I am in a great position for a new joiner especially for a fresh graduate. I’m the most qualified developer in the technology I’m in and even as an associate I manage 20 odd members and train them while dealing face to face with clients and demos.

I was the debating club core member in my college and have won 2 debates and broke as an adjudicator in another debate.

I also organised an event as a 3rd year student for the entire college ( we had a great turnout! )

I have a part time crochet business( I had it in the summer a year ago and I’m going to be resuming it and scaling it if possible)

I have previous startup experience during college where we got 2 clients for our product but most of my tech leads dropped out.. ( just a small experience but did teach me a lot, especially whipping up presentations overnight)

And I am an author of a research paper published in IEEE. I got to present my paper in IIT Delhi ( it’s one of the top colleges in India)

But the sad part is here, I wrote my GMAT about a year and a half ago and I got a 620(46Q, 30V)
So I decided to retake the GMAT and prepped for about 3 months or so and took it again..
I got a 610 ( 48Q, 27V) ! But my practice test scores were at 680-700.

My dream school is INSEAD. I really want to go there! I think I would be a perfect fit at INSEAD and I really really want to go!

But now I’m super conflicted on re writing my gmat or working on my profile.
I believe I have a very strong profile and some stellar essays will make up for my GMAT.
But I’m not too sure and I’ve been worried sick about taking the gmat again.
But im not confident to take it another time after the last one. Plus I’ve to study for the Focus edition. Both my past gmat were the old one.

Please help me guys! Thank you so much

Sarah967744 INSEAD alumna here. Hope I can add some useful perspective.

First, you don't need to convert your 7.9 GPA to the 4-point system. The school will evaluate your transcripts thoroughly.

One positive thing that I see about your GMAT score is that it is quant-heavy, which aligns well with the expectations of your demographic. This also means that you do not have to do a lot for quant but try to maintain the same kind of performance. For the verbal section, try to pinpoint the weak area and focus on improving specifically that. On the surface, it does seem to me that your verbal preparation is drastically off. Now I am not in a position to comment on whether there might be a plausible explanation for that or not. However, I am happy to have a one-to-one chat on when the schools may be more forgiving of a less than expected verbal score. But I can tell you what's the widely accepted norm.

For those from overrepresented populations, a Q49 score equivalent (the 75th percentile) is considered borderline elite. This score signals to the admissions committee that the applicant can handle the rigorous and analytical academic curriculum.
For native English speakers, on the other hand, a high verbal score is viewed positively by admissions committees because it demonstrates a strong command of the language, which is consistent with the expectations of this population.
For non-native English speakers, the verbal score is more likely to reflect their ability to participate in discussions in a truly global and diverse group at schools that place a high value on discussion-based pedagogy (like INSEAD). But a less than average GMAT verbal score should be balanced by a high Quant score. A low undergrad GPA should also be balanced by a high GMAT.

Do not hesitate to reach out for a candid discussion. We do not cap discussion hours for our applicants.

Hello Sarah967744,

Thanks for writing in.

If we were to offer you extremely candid advice, INSEAD is going to be tough with your current GMAT score - you will be placing way too much emphasis on your profile and banking on luck; hence, if you are looking at applying to INSEAD with a more realistic chance, you must retake the test.

The good news is that all the other European schools on your list look a lot more feasible and with a compelling application that adequately captures your strengths and achievements and portrays a set of logical career goals, you will stand a good chance.

Should you wish to discuss your prospects in greater detail, please feel free to get in touch with us for a free profile evaluation session.

All the best!
