- The better the test score, the better your odds for admission and chances for scholarship. Do your absolute max on this, without sacrificing time reserved just for applications (2 months minimum).

- Youre overrepresented as an Indian, which makes things harder, but might use optional essay or other writing opportunities speaking to your experiences as a hijabi muslim Indian.

- Apply to LBS. They have great reach beyond the UK and just opened a campus in Saudi. Great for consulting in ME, Australia. I prefer a 1.5 or 2 year program, it gives you more time to try things out, and still get a good outcome.

- Consider IESE as well. Very tight knit group.

INSEAD looks for academics, leadership, ability to contribute during and after the program, and international perspective, orientation. Need for United Nations style program.

I think your odds are good, but I don't know youre quant background, and its hard to assess without a test score. They take a max of 13.5% per country, so given the number of Indian applicants, this puts some upwards pressure on the GMAT, they can cherry pick.

Hey, I really wish to apply for MBA but there are few factors of my profile and circumstances due to which I am hesitant. Please help, need your advice.

Here’s my background:

* Demographics: Indian, 32F.
* GMAT: Yet to attempt; aiming for 650–700.
* Undergrad GPA: 76.42% in B.Sc Biotechnology (4.0/4 US, 6/7 Australia as per WES calculator)

* Work Experience:
9 years as Head of a government-aided school.
Built many aspects of my school structure from scratch; known for strong leadership.
Raised funds for 60-70 students’ education through my contacts, in last 2 years and considerable amounts earlier too.

* Extracurriculars:
Active in social work since college.
Treasurer at a club under an international organization.

* Post-MBA Goal: Transition into consulting, then start a travel-based startup.

* Financial Considerations:
Wish for considerable scholarship preferably covering tuition, living.
Not opting for interest-based loans due to religious reasons; so if I get considerable amount of scholarship, I will borrow money from family and spend from my savings (which is hardly anything in comparison to cost of studying abroad)

* Target Intake: Fall 2026.
* School Preferences: Top 2 B-schools in Australia, INSEAD, open to others with strong scholarships and consulting paths. Mostly negative about applying to US due to visa concerns under Trump administration, especially since I am a hijabi muslim and due to the job market in UK, hesitant to apply to LBS.

Looking for advice on:
* Chances at top B-schools,
* Chances to get scholarships
* Any other advice.
Thank you for sharing your profile haneenk15 ! Your story seems compelling, mission-driven. With 9years of experience leading a government-aided school, and raising substantial funds to support underprivileged students, you bring a rare combination of leadership, social impact, and community-driven commitment that business schools deeply value. Your background in education and social work, paired with your active extracurricular involvement as a treasurer in an international club, positions you as a candidate who has made meaningful contributions both professionally and personally. However, there are a few areas that need strengthening. Since you're targeting top-tier programs like INSEAD and leading Australian schools, a competitive GMAT score will be crucial, especially given your need for significant scholarships and your goal of transitioning into consulting. A score 665+(higher the better) will help you stand out and make you more eligible for merit-based funding. Additionally, articulating a clear narrative for your career switch, from education to consulting and eventually to launching a travel startup, will be essential. Schools will want to see how your past experiences connect with your future goals and how an MBA serves as a bridge between them.(READ BLOG)

Your preference for schools outside the U.S. is understandable given current socio-political concerns and visa uncertainties, and your choices reflect thoughtful consideration. INSEAD, NUS, and Melbourne Business School might be good to your goals and constraints. These programs not only have strong consulting pipelines but also offer substantial scholarships and a multicultural environment that aligns with your background and values. Oxford, Cambridge, and HEC Paris may also be worth considering for their one-year formats and global outlooks.

To increase your chances, prepare well for your GMAT, (READ BLOG) wish you all the best, begin drafting your story with a focus on transferable skills and leadership, and reach out to alumni for insights and potential support. Applying in Round 1 will also boost your chances of both admission and financial aid. Consider external scholarships or funding organizations that support women, educators, or Muslim candidates pursuing graduate studies.

Your journey is inspiring, and with the right planning and positioning, top schools can recognize the value you bring. If you’d like guidance on school selection, essay strategy, or shaping your narrative, we’d be happy to help. Feel free to reach out

Cheers!

Hello haneenk15,

You have a differentiated profile so a lot will depend on how well you score on the GMAT. 650 will be on the lower side considering you are targetting the top programs and are also exploring scholarships. A score closer to 700 is what will give you a competitive chance.

Of course, the GMAT is only one component of the applications and a lot will also depend on how well your essays work out.

The following video will prove to be helpful:

All the best!

Hi haneenk15

Late to the party but hope my two cents are useful.

I worked a couple of years ago with a high school teacher turned businesswoman, and she got into a T15 US MBA, so I am confident there is potential in you. But there are also gaps that you must deeply deliberate on. For example, what is the relevance of your pre-MBA experience to a consulting firm? Have you researched what kind of consulting projects you want to work on? Consulting is a vast domain, so in the present times it is not just enough to say that you want to be a consultant. You should be able to communicate well what value you would bring to a firm/industry. At this stage, I also cannot fully connect how consulting connects with your plans for a travel-based startup. If travel is your passion, you might as well look for a job/internship in a travel tech company so the business schools are more convinced about your motivations and your ability to pivot to a different industry. The schools do not appreciate candidates who are only counting on the MBA as an exit strategy from their current situation. They prefer applicants who show an action-oriented mindset.

I am happy to have a candid discussion on your prospects should you want to reach out and speak.
