The University of Chicago, Booth School of Business has opened its MBA applications for the 2026 -2027 admissions cycle. And, there’s one noteworthy clarification and one major change
The clarification:
Chicago Booth has explicitly mentioned on their website that they won’t accept GMAT/GRE test Superscores.
The major change:
Compared to last year where the main essays had a minimum 250-words limit, the current application includes just four essay prompts of 300 characters each. Not words, characters!
1) What is your immediate post-MBA career goal?
AKA, your short-term goals. Mention the target role, function, location, and your motivation
2) What is your long-term post-MBA career goal?
Mention the target role and scope that builds on your short-term goals, along with the broader impact you want to make.
3) Upload an image and explain its significance to you.
Similar in essence to last year’s community essay, rather than asking you to choose one of their four attached photos and explain what it means to you, you are now given the opportunity to upload an image of your choice and briefly explain why it is meaningful to you.
Like the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words," choose a personal or professional photo that reveals something about your character and values. Highlight the aspect of the image that stands out to you and connect it to the values it reflects.
4) Share a fun fact or something unique about yourself.
Use this as an opportunity to show an unexpected side of you. Perhaps, a hobby or unusual skill or personality quirk. Whatever you choose, it should reveal something about you that the AdCom won't already learn from your resume or letters of recommendation.
The optional question remains unchanged
Is there any unclear information in your application that needs further explanation or additional details you would like to share with the Admissions Committee? (Maximum 300 words.)
This is where you address any aspect of your application that requires further clarification. If you have a low GMAT/GRE score, low undergrad performance, gaps in your employment, a project change, or are soon to be promoted, use this space to explain those circumstances.
With only around 45–55 words available for each response, you'll need to be deliberate with every sentence. Keep your answers concise, but make sure they still communicate your goals, personality, and values effectively.
