Hello Mr. Bodine,
Thank you in advance for reading my profile, and sifting through the ton of text.
1. 23 year old South Asian-American
2. Undergrad: Boston University International Relations/Econ 3.1 overall 3.6 major
3. College Activities: E-Board of the Debate team, BU for Kerry Presidential campaign (interned at their Boston office), and founded a Indian dance society.
4. GMAT: I will be taking the GMAT in early August (scored 710 on the Princeton Review diagnostic)
5. Work Experience: Worked as a financial auditor for the Federal Reserve/Mass. Division of Banks for 1.5 years. Currently working at a 2 year old financial service company in India. My duties mostly consist of creating business plans and models to help entrepreneurs mid cap US companies seeking to expand through M&A, and enter the Indian market. I was attracted to this company because I am able to lead a team of 3 analysts and interact directly our client's CEO/CFO. Also, I wanted to work in India and understand its business environment.
6. Community Activities: I am helping to set up a rural health project that will develop a series of village level clinics in rural India. The project links universities in the U.S. and Europe with a leading medical college in Bangalore with the goal of setting of a Health policy center, that sponsors rural/urban health NGOs in India. I'm also learning Hindi, and Kannada (local language).
7. Why a MBA?
I actually decided that I wanted an MBA while I was still in undergrad. My concentration focused on economic development in Asia, and by the end of my 4 years I realized that I wanted to help grow local companies in India. My major did not really provide the necessary analytical tools I needed to enter the consulting field so I joined the Fed with an eye on learning how large corporations worked, and developing an analytical skillset. Once I had the proper skills I found a small company (80 people when I joined) in India that where I could help small/mid sized companies through consultancy. Since joining I've also headed up the business development side of the business and the company has increased revenues 150% and now has 160 employees (not directly my doing the CEO is great, but I helped). I want to get a MBA so that I can start a company that helps develop business in India, and helps international companies establish themselves in the Indian market.
8. Target schools/preferences: I have been looking at schools with strong consulting and entrepreneurship tracks but really need advice on what schools may be a good fit. I know that Harvard, Wharton, Stanford are reaches (maybe an understatement). Incidently, my current boss is a Wharton alum and is active in the alumni society (will that help?). Thanks again for your advice!
