Hi Paul,

This is my first post on gmatclub, and I felt, the best way, to set the ball rolling, is to get a honest feedback from you as to how much of a chance do I stand, in this big bad world I am about to venture :-).

I am targetting ISB and the PGPX or the regular MBAs from IIMs. My Penchant is towards a one year course preferrably based out of india, though i do have my other options open.

Here is my profile

Age: 27+
GPA: 76% from a class of 90 (in top 5)
5+ years of experience in a leading IT industry , started as a new bee and made my way through to the post of a project manager. So, naturally a host of leadership skills to showcase. I have 3+ years of International exposure (USA). Worked extensively with financial clients, especially an investment bank for more than 2 years. This is where i started developing a liking to the business/financial sector. I recently cleared MY CFA level 1 and am planning to clear Level 2 next june. (I would appear for GMAT this november).

Have been involved in extracurricular activities since college days. Was an active volunteer for an NGO during a period of heavy cyclone (hurricane) that rocked our state. participated in marathons held by NPOs to aid under priveleged children in India.

Actively involved in sports. represented my undergrad college in cricket.

Considering that I manage a 700+ in GMAT and get good recos from my managers and clients, how do you see my chances.

Also how much of a value do you think the CFA designation would add to my profile. i am hoping to use that as a differentaiting weapon.

Let me know what are the typical colleges I should be applying for.

Thanks so much for evaluating all these profiles

CarpeD,

Assuming 700+ GMAT and your profile I would think your chances at the top Indian schools are good. Your leadership roles will help you, as will your experience in the U.S. To be honest, I do not consider myself an expert on India's management institutes, though they are clearly becoming more selective and formidable, so that may temper your odds. If your post-MBA goals are finance and you are looking for one-year programs, you could consider IESE, which places over a third of its MBAs in finance roles, and perhaps also LBS, but as a longshot school.

Good luck,

Thanks so much Paul, really appreciate your effort to take time out and evalutate everyone's profile. Actually, the reason I mentioned Indian schools was mainly because of the cost factor. Though I have made substantial savingsover the years, I may not be able to put all of it into my studies as I am currently the sole bread winner for my family. That's primarily the reason for my inclination towards one year program and Indian B-schools. However as you cited , I would keep an eye at schools out of India which have a good ROI.
Thanks again. .

You're welcome. Some lower-ranked B-schools (I don't have any particular ones in mind) might offer you scholarships if your GMAT etc. is sufficiently higher than their average admittee's.
