Hi,
Last staurday, I made a second attempt at GMAT and result was disappointing 640(Q49,V27). In my first attempt, it got 610(Q50,V23).
Background
I am a mechanical engineer and post graduate in industrial engineering. I have 8.5 years experience in IT and of that 6 years is international(US and Europe). Currently working as program manager handling an account with revenue run rate of USD 4.0million.
I have good acad. 84% in Bachelor of Engineering and 80% in post graduation. I was topper in bachelor so i guess this will help to a extent.
Dreamt of big league schools but with 640, it seems very difficult.
I did some research to find schools with 80% GMAT range touching 640 and saw that Yale, LBS and Oxford does figure in that list. However, I am part of this large Indian IT pool so I am not sure if this GMAT score 640 will be sufficient. If I can get into any of these then I will happily take it.........
Do I stand a fair chance for any of these big league schools.....
any suggestions ??
If GMAT score is big hinderance then I will make another attempt at GMAT but few on the forum mentioned that 3rd attempt is considered bad by Adcoms.
Reason for MBA
So far I have been focussed on IT consultancy and will like to move into management consulting and I think a MBA from top school will be great help to make the switch.
Pls suggest....

Yes, yours would not typically be the applicant profile that would get in with a 640. If they did admit an Indian Male Engineer with a 640 it would be because there are a number of very strong and/or very unusual positives somewhere else in your profile. But you didn't mention anything that would make me think you have those elements. You are also hurt somewhat by your age which is moving out of the middle 80% range of U.S. schools.
My understanding is that it is *more* than 3 GMAT attempts, not 3 attempts, that schools dislike. However, you would probably need to get above a 700 to have a serious shot at LBS. Oxford and Yale are more doable, but really a 700 should be your target.
