Hi
I am 21 year old Indian male born and raised here in the USA
GMAT 720 (Q 48, V 41)
Undergraduate GPA 3.97 - University of Houston Finance Major
Work Experience
I work for a family business. We are an importer and distributor of ethnic foods from India, England, Thailand, and several other countries. We have been in business for over 20 years, and do nearly $5 million in revenue per year. I have been working there part-time (25 hours per week) since I my first year of college, and have worked full-time since last May. I attended the University of Houston, which allowed me the flexibility to work and attend school at the same time.
I started and online retail store which has grown significantly in just one year. It is very profitable and brings a significant amount of revenue. I am solely responsible for this. I am also responsible for several wholesale accounts, and I also a general manager. As I say to many other people, I am part of the marketing department, administrative department, and janitorial department.
Extracurricular activities:
Very involved in religious and cultural activities - play several musical instruments and perform in concerts. Very involved in temple, and do service there. Many other activities at temple and within our local community.
Short term goal after MBA:
To begin expanding our business throughout the United States by opening distribution centers in different cities.
Long Term goal:
To develop a national brand and manage manage several distribution centers that import and distribute the products we sell.
MBA Specialization:
Would prefer a school specializing in entrepreneurship, but also focuses on business development and general management. I am not interested in getting a corporate job after my MBA.
Why MBA now?
I want to grow the family business now and take it to the next level. If I wait, I may become too involved in the growth phase that I will not be able to leave the company for two years.
My questions are:
1) What are my chances in getting into a top 20 business school considering my young age? I will have only two years of full-time work experience though I have had several years of part-time experience in the same business.
2) Which schools do you suggest considering my profile?
3) I know your recommendation would be to wait a few years before applying. But, I strongly feel that the only time I will be able to get an MBA is now. If I do not attend an MBA program next year, my chances for attending an MBA program AT ALL would be very slim. How can I stress that I have real business skills, focused, and mature for my age?
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. Please let me know if you have any questions for me.
