I have a question regarding when to apply. I am currently looking at applying to the evening part-time programs for both Kellogg and University of Chicago for the summer quarter. However because of the Holidays and work I just recently started my applications. I have gained commitments for both of my recommendations and just started brainstorming for my essays. I know that both of these schools work on rolling admissions, will it hurt me not apply the first day I can? Should I wait till the fall semester to apply? I believe I can turn in my applications in mid February at the latest. I just want to make sure I am not hurting my chances but not applying the first day possible.
Here is my profile-
GMAT- 690 (46Q, 38V)...my first attempt was a 610...I believe a 690 is around my ceiling, I was averaging around 640 in my practice tests
Graduated from the University of Illinois in 2004 with a BS in Finance, GPA was 3.5 and I graduated with honors.
I am currently working in the insurance industry as a small commercial underwriter. I have obtained my CPCU designation, professional underwriter designation, I completed the program in only 2 years (the industry standard is 3). Although I only have 3.5 years of experience, but I was leading underwriter in 2007.
The reason I am getting a MBA is because I am in a very old industry, the average person in my office is probably around 40 in my position and mangement is even older. I have been told by numerous co-workers that shortly management positions will be opening because of retirement. So I want to position myself the best I can. Plus I believe that being in school and working at the same time will provide new skills to be successful in both.
I plan on focusing my essays about love to learn (another reason for going back to school), my unique work experience (its not everyday you find a 25 year underwriter), I love the atmosphere at both Chicago and Northwestern and I believe I can strive in both those schools. Is there anything else I should focus on? Any weakness you see in my profile?

If you can get put together strong applications by the end of February then there's no harm in the fact that you didn't submit your application right at the starting gun. Your delay should not be a disadvantage for you in and of itself -- provided that when you do submit, your application is the best it can be and not rushed.
As for your profile, your industry and career progress look distinctive, so that's an asset. You didn't mention people leadership, in or outside of work, which is important, and you didn't mention extracurriculars/volunteering, which is also important. My point is, you want to package your profile so it's more than just about being fast track in your industry--there's needs to be more.

thank you for your response, I am actually using your Great Application Essays for Business School book right now for my essays, it has been a great help, thank you!
In both my essays and resume I have mentioned leadership both at work (I have lead some small projects, one I focus on is the hiring and coordination of my offices intern program last summer) and from college.
Between getting my CPCU and GMAT study I have had limited time for a extracurriculars since college. However last year I did volunteer on a Aldermanic campaign in Chicago (the same ward that both Chicago GSB and Kellogg are in) for about 3 months. I have not mentioned this in my essays, could not find a reasonable place to fit it in however, but it is on my resume with the tasks I performed.
Right now my Resume is 2 pages, should I try to shorten it down to 1 or is a 2 page resume ok?
