Hello
Accepted.com,
On the forum there seems to be more interest in MSF programs and they seem to offer younger students better opportunities than right out of undergrad. How would MBA programs view an individual who attends an MSF program early on to get a head start in their career and then apply to an MBA program at a more appropriate age?
Specifically, my situation is that I went to a very small school for undergraduate and not many people enter the investments industry, where I hope to be. I am considering attending UIUC's MSF program after a year of work at a commercial bank. I am hoping the MSF will take me on the career path that I am targeting and down the line an MBA could be an option. However, if I had to choose between the two I would rather attend an MBA program for the networking, internship and well rounded curriculum.
If I had to explain why 2 master degrees may be appropriate I would mention that the MSF helped me move into the industry at a younger age and now that more time has passed the MBA is appropriate to help me develop my leadership abilities in the industry.
So, would it be reasonable to pursue the MSF with intentions of pursuing an MBA later, or should I just hold off since I'm set on an MBA.
Also, if anyone else would like to comment please do, especially if you are in a similar situation or have experienced something like this.
Thanks!
