Hi Paul:
Appreciate it if you can evaluate my profile:
28/Chinese-American/male
GMAT: 690 (Q50, V33), AWA 4.5
GPA: 3.3 Mechanical Eng major at University of Michigan (Bachelor and Masters degree)
Alternative transcript: 3.5 GPA at Kelly (Indiana Univ) business certificate (4 courses)
Work Experience: 4+ years overall. I started as an automotive systems safety engineer (2yrs) and later moved to marketing as a Product Marketing Manager (2yrs+) specializing in the market of next generation driver safety applications. I have no direct report but own an annual budget of $2 million. My scope of responsibility has grown from one to three product lines and from North America region to global. I report directly to the Director of Marketing in a US based Automotive OEM firm.
Extra-curricular: Volunteered at Red Cross sporadically in College. In between the promotions at my job, I went on a sabbatical-mission for two months in Cambodia where I served as a project leader for building a sewage system for the local villagers
Goals/Reason for MBA: I am quite content with my current career track in Marketing. I wish to remain in this field after I graduate but in a different industry. That being said, I also view B-school as a good opportunity to experience more by moving out of state (or even out of the country).
Target schools:
Harvard (super reach, I know)
Kellogg (my number one choice)
Fuqua
Oxford/Cambridge
LBS/INSEAD
What are my chances at these schools? Do you see any glaring holes in my profile? What should I do in between now and round 1 (retake GMAT, more volunteering)?
Thanks,
Gavin
