Hello,
Let me start by saying I don’t plan to attend B-school until 2011 or 2012. I want to get started early.
It never hurts to start early!
Profile:
Small private school in Western Pennsylvania
BSBA with concentration in Management (2008)
GPA 3.96
Awards:
Numerous honor societies, dean’s list ever semester, dean’s scholar, voted top Management student by faculty and president of the University
Extracurricular activities:
This is an area I need to improve. I worked all 4 years while in school (3 years at a family owned business and 1 in a large corporation). Consequently, I didn’t have many extracurricular activities.
I have a few years till I plan to start applying to schools. I have a few coaching and mentoring opportunities I plan to pursue.
Work Experience:
1 year as Procurement Coordinator.
Negotiated savings of 20% on indirect material and service contracts valued over $1.5 million.
Starting January, I will be working in the Treasury department of a large Global 500 company as a Financial Analyst.
I should have 3.5 – 4 years experience when I plan to apply to b-schools and a number of promotions in this time.
My questions:
How do I need to perform on the GMAT to be admitted to a top 25 school?
Any advice on what I should do to improve my profile now while I have time?

Always smart to start early. B-school admission is likely to continue becoming more selective so I think you need to aim for a 700 GMAT minimum and as high as above that as you can. In a general sense, you should be working on demonstrating leadership (and the impact that follows from it) in as many areas of your life as you can. This may be out of your hands to some extent in your job, but you have more opportunities outside of work. So while any kind of extracurricular involvement is good, if you can hunt for involvements that require you to coordinate people then you'll be ahead of the game.

I am aiming for a 700 on the GMAT. I have plenty of time to prepare and should be able to do this.
I am interested in pursuing in a career in Finance or Consulting after I obtain my MBA.
I am looking to attend a school that is fairly small and not in an overly populated area. Would you be able to recommend any schools that would be a good fit?
I was thinking Tepper (I live outside of Pittsburgh now), Tuck, not sure what other schools would be a good fit.
