I will finish my MD in a few months in a US medical school and recently have gotten interested in doing the MBA. I just took the GMAT last week and luckily scored a 710, AWA still pending. Since my interest in MBA is new I have little knowledge about what programs are best for my intended concentrations. I heard about HBS, Wharton, Kellog, Yale, Stanford but wondering what you think about them and any other programs of which I'm aware. Here's a brief profile of mine
Female/ US citizen
will be MD
GMAT: 710, 45/43
Undergrad: double majors, math minor, top 10%, Phi Beta Kappa
No business experience per se
What's the likelihood that I'll get accepted into one of those schools? Is it too late to apply for the 2009 school year? What else can I do to improve my business profile?

In addition to HBS, Wharton, Kellogg, Yale, and Stanford, Berkeley Haas, Boston U, Vanderbilt, GWU, and Rochester (Simon) have a health management tracks of one kind or another. Whether you could get into the schools you named depends on the quality of your profile. Your 710 and MD suggest you won't need to convince them that you can handle B-school academically and you MD also makes you a diversity candidate, which helps you stand out. However, your big challenges will be showing them you have leadership experiences (of whatever kind, in whatever venue) and that you know why you need an MBA (i.e., showing savvy, well-diligenced goals). If you clear those two hurdles you may have a shot at several of those schools, with Yale being perhaps the most doable and HBS and Stanford the least, in general terms.

Thank you for the eval. Regarding leadership skills, I was head of a couple of honor societies back in college. I'm wondering whether that kind of leadership counts. On the goals of getting MBA, I'll look more into them. Do you advise that I retake the GMAT to increase my shot at one of the top schools? I didn't really study much for the last one. If I study a little more, I'm confident I'll score at least 750.
