I hope you could help me to figure out which Bschools I have chance to get in. I plan to start the MBA application this year Sept 2009 and study in 2010.
1. Personal info:
- Male, from Thailand, 27 years old (28 when enter MBA)
2. Academic performance:
- GMAT 700 Quant: 49, Verbal 35, AWA: 5.5
- Top 5% at university
- Graduate with high grade in a Global Management Trainee Progam of a Group in shipping/transportation industry - an international and very competitive program for fresh university graduate (very few people are recruited per year in Thailand). I was also awarded with an expat position upon my graduation from this program - a special recognition for job and academic performance (only 1/3 of my fellows can get a expat job)
- Multiple prizes at university + scholarship at university
2. Working experience:
- I have a quite good combination of job experience. I used to work in Thailand in shipping/logistics for more than 2 years, then move to Europe for a higher position in another company of the same Group. To date, I have spent almost 3 years in transportation/supply chain/logistics with experiences in sales, yield management, marketing, operation of rail/sea/air transport.
I also have experience in finance and accounting for 1 year + market research for 6 months in logistics and branding service. Below are details:
- Current position: Working in Europe as Yield and Marketing Manager
+ Locate at the headquarter of an European company in transportation (100 employees, 6 branchs in Europe).
+ Job grade: Manager
+ Experience in the position till submit application: 7 months
+ Experience till start study: 1 year 7 months
+ Responsibility: Yield and performance management for all activities throughout EUROPE;
In charge of all price setting, price strategy, price related aspects in new product development for all sales activities of EUR;

In charge of market intelligence, competitor analysis for EUR
- Past position 1:
+ Sales in shipping company in Thailand (another son company of the same Group) : 1.5 year
+ Air operation of a logistics company in Thailand (same Group): 8 months
- Past position 2:
+ Auditor of a big4 company: 1 year, decided to move because want to take new challenge in the transportation group.
- Past position 3: Group leader of 2 freelance market research project upon my university graduate.
3. Extra curricular:
- An active member of a popular charity group in Thailand
- Team leader of table tennis at university. I won several prizes in the sport.
- I won a bronze prize for young business talent - held by the Thailand Business Association
- International exposure thanks to my participation in the Global management trainee program.
4. Future goal:
- I want to run a supply chain solution company in Thailand upon my MBA graduation, to help factories in Thailand to optimize their supply chain and minimize production cost, increase competitiveness.
- The long term goal is to participate in planning and executing the building project of a deep sea container terminal in Thailand. With my experience in supply chain + understading in operation/supply chain management, I can assist in designing the hinterland connection for the terminal.
5. Target schools: I want to go to schools which are really strong in operation management and supply chain management. My top interests: Stanford, MIT, Ross, Carey, Ohio. I am also considering Chicago, Duke, and UNC. Though these 3 schools dont have strong focus on operation but they are reputable schools with bright future prospect. I choose MBA not MSC in supply chain because I want to learn more other areas of business: general management, finance... not only supply chain.
6. My questions:
- Do you think I have chance in the listed schools? Stanford, MIT are my top choices but i am not sure if my profile is good enough to aim Stanford?
- Do you think I have chance to get full tuition fellowship from Ross, Duke, UNC, Carey, Ohio or Indiana with my given GMAT score + working experience?
- Weak areas that I need to improve?
Thks alot for the advices
