read a many of your posts on various MBA related forums. I have a few questions and would like to you to take a look at my profile.
I got my degree Cornell Engineering with a 3.14 GPA and a 690 (V 34 and Q 49) in GMAT. After school I worked for IBM for about a year as an supply chain consultant, doing mostly technical work. I realized IBM was not for me and decided I want to do work related to finance so I joined a fixed income hedge fund. At there, I did a lot of operation and programming work. I was there for little more than a year because the current recession forced it out of business. Afterward, I had a 3 month stint with small student loan company, doing securitization and corporate finance work. Again, the current recession force that company to file for bankruptcy and I was force to look for another job. I am currently with an automated trading/brokerage firm doing mostly IT work. By September of 2009 I should have 4 years of work experience.
My extracurricular activities consist of a private business I run and a various work I do for my religious organization. In 2008, my partner and I bought a 3 family house in Queens, NY. We renovated the place and rented out all units. We worked together to screen tenants, negotiate rent contracts, negotiate mortgage rate, and maintain the property. Overall the investment has been profitable and we plan to sale the house once the market is booming again.
I am also involved with Falungong's annual Chinese New Year gala. A few friends of mine and I are responsible for promoting the show and try to sale as many gala ticket as we can. Lastly, I am also a CFA level 2 candidate.
My post MBA goal is to switch from what I am currently doing to asset management and investment related work.
I will apply to Darden, Stern, Tepper, and Cornell this fall. I wonder what are my chances for these four schools? Should I retake the gmat to compensate for the low gpa and to improve my low verbal score? Would the job hoping become a liability, even though I was force to switch job in both instances?
Thanks!
