Hi Alex,
The following is a quick overview of my profile:
GMAT: 710 (Q:50, V:38), AWA: 6.0
Age: 26
Education: Went to a school that is well-known for its engineering programs and majored in Software Engineering with a minor in Literature - GPA's were 3.35 and 4.0 respectively.
Nationality: Chinese-American
Experience: 3 years
Industry: Software Development, Quality Assurance.
Career: Started off as a Quality Analyst, then promoted to a Quality Assurance Engineer within a year. After the QA Manager left the company, I was temporarily managing the QA team (two off-shore teams each with six members, as well as one in-house QA analyst) with the Project Manager for a duration of three months. My ex-manager then brought me over to her new company as a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer/QA Lead, where I currently lead a small team of three QA engineers and oversee the customer support system.
EC: Participate in local volunteer events two to three times a month on the weekends, with the same non-profit organization.
Career Goals: I would like to go into GM/Strategic Planning in the non-profit sector.
I applied to four different schools last year, but were denied from all of them: Tuck (Rn2 Nov app), Ross (Rn2 Feb app), Columbia (Rolling app submitted by the end of Jan), and Cornell (Rn3 Apr app).
Ross was the only school that offered a feedback on denied applicants' applications, and I came up with the following to improve upon my application:
Better demonstration of progression in my career:
1. promotions
2. additional responsibilities
However, I was not able to gather much more, for it was only a ten-minute phone call. Do you think my work experience is lacking both in terms of years and diversity in comparison to the other applicants?
Schools : These are the schools I'm planning on applying to for 2011 admission (in order of preference):
Ross (reapply)
NYU
Duke
I have three questions that I am hoping you can help me with:
1. The nature of my job and the responsibilities I will have in the next year or so will not vary much, thus will I stand a good chance with Ross as a re-applicant?
2. I know two people who have graduated from NYU and from what I have heard, most of the students there choose finance as their concentration. What are my chances if I want to pursue a GM/Strategic Planning path?
3. Besides the three aforementioned schools, are there other schools I should be considering given my profile? I have intentionally left out Darden due to its lecture style.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my profile and answering my questions.
Regards
