I doubt that there's much of a difference between an MBA and an MF program in the
perceived difference between the top-ten schools and the top-hundred schools. There's probably the same "eliteness" effect. But I agree with the previous post about the quality often being the same (MBA or MF), but there being true value in the reputation. I often hear people say, "You're just paying for the name." Even if this is true, the name is worth a lot!! Yeah, you won't necessarily learn more at a top-ten school (although some will argue that you will), but having that name can make things easier from time to time.
That's not to say that a lower-ranked school isn't worth it. That's not true at all. But just know that, with a lower-ranked school, you're getting the education component but not the reputation asset. If you're comfortable with that -- and many people are -- then a lower-ranked school may be perfect for you. This is true no matter what degree you're getting.
