is 680 enough for a top 10 b-school?

Question

Hello, just scored 680 .. I was hoping for something around 720

combined score in the 83 percentile I can't decide whether to retake it as I have no official full time work experience to back up my app. I've worked as a student assistant/working student all the way through university and went abroad twice (lots of international experience). Majored in English with minors in Management and Italian .. and I can speak 5 languages fluently. Any chance to get into B-school? Would appreciate any input/advice

Hi Elinka,

Your GMAT score is strong, and your diversity of experiences may set you apart from the rest in your applicant pool. A 680 GMAT score will open the door to top 10 schools, but must be supplemented with strong essays and a resume to display your uniqueness. Have you had leadership opportunities that you can write about?

It seems like it would be difficult to crack a top ten school without any work experience, but it may be possible if you've had some really exceptional leadership experience. Your time abroad will help set you apart as well.

Generally a score above 700 would improve your chances in getting into your desired university offering MBA. However you should keep in mind that scores are not the only thing that will help you gain admission to these elite universities. A strong profile is needed as well. In order to assess your profile, I would need a more in-depth understanding of your background to analyse the strength of your profile.

Hi elinka,

I agree with Kavita's post above. One additional point I would like to make is that the majority of business schools you apply to will focus on your highest GMAT score. As opposed to other graduate programs which look at all of your test scores, on most business school applications the GMAT score is self-reported, so you will only write your highest score. If you do feel you can increase your score significantly, it won't hurt to take the test again.

However, as mentioned in earlier posts, your GMAT score is only one part of your application.
